At this point in his career, why shouldn't he be able to dictate what he wants to do? His legacy is cemented whether he wins a ring or not. If he wants to come off the bench for a contender or play a starting role on a bad team, it's his choice. Is this not his 14th NBA season? It's not like he hasn't paid his dues.

Obviously because he's in the position to demand from a contendor what he wants to.

I mean look at all of those teams knocking down the door to sign him this summer.

        I agree 100%

Its no different from someone getting traded and not wanting to report to the team and getting their contract bought out. Iverson is in a position to control his destiny. Who wouldnt want full control over what they want to do. I wish I had that power at my job and not have to worry bout where my next meal is coming from

While this may be true, it's his career. At the end of the day, only Allen Iverson will have to live with the bumps and bruises he's taken throughout his time in the NBA, only he will really have to live with the would've, could've, and should've's.

So if he wants to say that he will only play if he has a major role in the team, so be it. I think it's really pretentious to say that he is "ruining his legacy" if he refuses to take a lesser role to win a title. If he wants to go out like that, let him. There is no right way or wrong way, imo.

Re: AI/Grizzlies agree to terminate contract

Wasn't really addressing the whole legacy thing.

Point is, when you've performed to a certain level, your are limited by the evalutation of that performance. GMs across the league have evaluated him and decided he doesn't help their teams improve. So whatever freedom Iverson has regarding the continuation of his career falls within those boundaries, like it or not.

As far as the ending of his career, he could end his career at any time. It's his choice to end after his MVP season if he wanted, so when he leaves is irrelevant. How he performs before he leaves is relevant. If people want to remember him as a malcontent who couldn't buy a job in the league, that's their right, since that's how he's done. Now if he comes back and contributes to a winning team, they'll have no choice but to acknowledge that as his final impression on the league.

On the subject of legacy, it's really up to the person considering it. Do his last two years take away from the previous 12? It's all in the eyes of the beholder. I certainly will remember him less fondly if he proves that he could never learn from his mistakes and age his game. No way did I see AI coming and going before J Kidd retired. I, as an AI fan, wish that he would have worked on his jumper and his leadership, and adjusted his game and won a ring, or at least got back to the Finals.

I hope AI is patient and signs with a good team, not the god dam knicks.... George Karl said the nuggs would prob take him if injuries affected his guard rotation http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_13811769 . Plenty of teams would also do the same i think, so he needs to bide his time a little and feel out the market, teams always want to make changes midway through the season before the deadline and injuries always take their toll.

I've always wanted him on the Spurs (even before Parker arrived) but that will never happen.

Why the hell would they do that after what they went through with Marbs? I mean he is "The Canswer" right?

Because AI would sign to a one year deal, virtually no risk - and literally none when talking about next year's cap.

Maybe with Eddy Curry coming back (don't laugh, he'll give us good post scoring) and AI this team might not finish with one of the five worst records in the league.

RealGM is saying Iverson told his "associates" he will sign with the Knicks.

Walsh said if the Knicks do offer Iverson a contract it will likely be for the $1.4 million veteran's minimum.
