Re: Iverson back where he belongs.

Brain fart on my part, I thought they lost the last game. Woops. I need to stop doing sports research at 6 in the morning.

NYCBred - Not sure why you think I'm putting anything on Iverson. I was wrong about the last game, guess I looked at it too early, but he didn't play well the first 3 games. I absolutely did not say that he was the reason for the losses, nor did I imply it. I've actually stated several times I hope he does well and retires with a ring, but it's easy to avoid those things when you have homer glasses on. Wait a second...why would you avoid those things? I think you would agree with them.

Anyway, back to the original question, I am genuinely curious as to the level of excitement surrounding the 6ers. I would assume it's picked up a bit since they won their last game. Didn't know that before posting the original question.

Even though, slimm, you ask a valid question, I wish you didn't re-hash this thread because the Iverson fans are chomping at the bit to spew venom (as displayed already today). Not blaming you, though.

The first game was filled to the rafters. Next game, attendance went down damn near 8,000. Pretty much where it was before and has stayed that way.

So yeah, the hype died down quick.

He played less and in spurts, that's why.

Lol, that reminds me (though this is way off-topic), they asked T-Mac about how he felt and he was like I felt good, my lungs weren't burning, it wasn't as bad as practice, etc.

No crap!! You played 7 minutes! lol.

But yeah, I think long rests and playing in spurts is much better for players like AI and Mac, play them when they're hot and yank them when they cool.

Fans and haters alike. It's too bad most think you have to be one or the other. I'd rather be a basketball fan commenting on players as they play. Able to be more objective that way.

The team was mired in a 9gm losing streak prior to a 34 yr old guard coming on board and starting after a 1 month hiatus from basketball.

What were we expecting 5 games into his debut?

I still wonder what AI was doing all that time. Sitting on the couch, eatin' Cheetos?

But anyways, Why are you guys being so darn defensive? All slimm said was he was hoping AI would be doing better. He's not trashing the guy.

I'm not being defensive. I'm just saying take the results from 5 games from a 34 yr old guard having to come back after a month hiatus from basketball and entering 2009-10 with injuries, with a grain of salt.

I guess what I'm saying is, WHAT was expected? The team was on a 9 game losing streak prior to Iverson's arrival. Was he going to come in and drop 30/night en route to 4 straight wins?

Just a tad too early to evaluate Iverson's return. A month from now...maybe. By this time in Feb/March? Definitely. 4/5 games after his arrivial. No.

Bingo. No one really knew. But, at least to me, he had fairly high expectations because of the way he behaved in Memphis, and because I would like to see him come out on top. He was upset because he wasn't starting and not getting enough time on a bad (at the time) team, which led to him being released and becoming a free agent. For him to believe that he should have started and gotten more PT, he had to believe he could still play at that level. Please understand, I'm not talking about the "2001" level that's been thrown around, I'm talking about a starting-in-the-NBA-talent level.

Maybe it was hope that caused me to over-inflate what I thought he would do in those first few games. And I agree with your cautious approach to his start with Philly, although I didn't take it as much as I wanted to. At the same time, when you complain your way out of a job because you think you are better than what you are able to contribute, I expect that contribution to come nearly immediately when you get a shot.

That being said, I hope he is able to play well and improve throughout the season. If he is able to play within the system and help the young players grow, they may be able to be better than some think. He is not in his prime anymore, but he can still be a good player. If Brand, Iggy, Thad, and Williams can play together and with Iverson, they could be decent.

Is he going to be a Sixer then? I'm sorry, but Jrue Holiday IS a starting PG in this league. He's shut down every PG that he has faced so far. With LW back soon, There's no need for AI.

And made Mo Williams disappear last night. They get Jrue off him late with the switch and Mo throws in two daggers.
