Re: Dwight Howard
I wouldn't want anyone else as Center on the Magic. And if you have been watching, Howard has been improving his post moves and even throwing in a surprise jumper here and there. He is getting better against the other good centers in the NBA.Comment

Re: Dwight Howard
The one huge flaw in Dwight's game is his passing out of the double team OR reading the defense.
The Magic knows that when he gets the ball in the post, 9 times out of 10 he's going to get an extra defender. So when and how that extra defender comes, Howard still cannot make the right pass or decision. And most of the time, his passes out of the double team results in a turnover. As evident of his 1.7/3.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. And also remember, he's second in the league in turnovers.
This was Shaq's problem when he first got into the league. Then after a few years, he learned to make simple passes out of the double team. But it wasn't until he learned the triangle offense from Phil Jackson that he started to read the defense when the double teams started to come.
So I would probably conclude that his mishandling of the rock might be the cause of his limited touches.
Shaq was one of the best passing big men in the league when he played. He kept the ball up high, Dwight always bring the ball down. Shaq recognized double teams and could pass out of them, Dwight routinely has the ball poked away from behind or takes too long to pass. Dwight's hands aren't nearly as good as Shaq's. Dwight's post moves are not as powerful, don't have as much touch, and take longer to establish his position and finish, which allows double teams to come and defenses to rotate.
If Dwight can get in position where he catches, recognizes the D, and goes up strong in 2-3 seconds, he will become a much better player on offense. He is definitely improving, and his efficiency is going up, but he has a ways to go. Dwight has the work ethic and the ability where he can eventually become a reliable player in the post, but right now the Magic might be better off slowly giving him more touches throughout the season instead of re-working their offense around him. Usually a team builds their offense around guys that can create for themselves and others, and Dwight is a finishing-type of player instead of a "sit and watch him make plays" type.Comment

Re: Dwight Howard
This is 100% accurate. It's not that Dwight can't score in the post, it's that when he gets doubled it usually doesn't end well.

Re: Dwight Howard
I've seen several games where Howard went one-on-one in the post and couldn't score. Actually he could hardly back down his man, and that made him trying his running hook shot that he MISSES so well.My Specs:

Re: Dwight Howard
I know what you mean, but if you've seen him recently he's much-improved in his one-on-one scoring. That running hook is dropping and he's starting to hit little jumpers, too. Thing is, he hardly ever sees only one defender in the post.Comment

Re: Dwight Howard
Makes me wonder what Ewing is doing there. Huge Ewing fan growing up, but i'm not sure what he can teach Dwight.
Ewings game was fadeaways, jumpshots and running hooks. Not much post pizzaz."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

That's what I've been saying the past 2 seasons. And I think Howard, in his 6th season, still doesn't know what kind of centre he is. I hope he'll find out soon...My Specs:

I always wondered what would happen if I could somehow combine Amare's offensive game with Dwight's defense and rebounding.Comment

Re: Dwight Howard
He's only 24. When Ewing came into the league he was raw offensively too and he was 23. Big guys mature at different rates.Comment
