A couple years ago Dwight was working on his mid-range jumper and it was looking really good in preseason but he seems to have given up on it.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

If I'm Van Gundy I don't know if I want him shooting mid-range jumpers. That just seems like him settling for a bad shot. They have enough jump-shooters as is.

Yeah I'm all for adding peices to your game but if Dwight stopped posting up and starting taking jumpers as well this team would literally have no low post presence at all.

As good a shooting team as this is you never want to be relying solely on jumpshots to win games.

              Re: Dwight Howard

In another thread, I posted he might be #2 for the MVP race (I read the question wrong and it actually said best player but the point remains) and some people laughed.

However, he leads the league in blocks, rebounds, FG%, and double doubles. He is by far has the biggest impact on the league defensively. Offensively, he opens the game up for his teammates like few other players as well.

His team has the second best record in the NBA. He leads his team in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks (like I said he leads the NBA in 3 major statistical categories). He changes the way the game is played both offensively and defensively.

Whether anyone thinks it is BS or not, Dwight's post game could travel over the Bermuda Triangle, get lost forever and would not be missed. At all. That killer whale in the news a few weeks ago has better moves than Dwight Howard. Dude was quick with his and used the brute strength he was blessed with.

And I agree with Dice. What killed Howard against the Lakers was his sucky post game and had no idea what to do with the ball when he had it, especially when doubled. Very disappointing.
I disagree that DH is not a superstar but I agree 100% with everything else you said. You look at the improvement in Kobe's post game in just one year(and that really wasn't something I would call a real weakness in his game that he needed to address) and you look at Dwight's post game (looks like very little has changed and it's something everyone watching the finals last year thought he needed to work on). He is a beast but he needs polish. I'd like to see what someone like Kevin Mchale would do with Dwight Howard with a full off season of training. Learning from a great like Patrick Ewing should be beneficial but I feel that Patrick's game is more of a finesse style which doesn't fit DH's game style imo.

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

I dont think Patrick Ewing was the best guy to teach him the post, its 2 years now and Howard has nothing to show for it. He has such a weak post game he's off my superstar list. Yes, hes athletic, no game other than blocking and rebounding. He has no go to move or jumpshot.

Ewing isnt the best guy to teach any big man how to play.

Agreed. The Magic need a purely offensive big man to coach him, like a Kevin McHale.

                                Why not?

Just because he was a jump shooter doesn't mean he can teach big man fundamentals. He's worked with pretty much every big that has come through Gtown including Greg Monroe.

Kevin Mchale was a GM. Do you really think he's going to come back to be an assistant coach? Besides, I'm sure Dwight gets tutored in the off-season by a lot of different bigs.
