Re: LeBron James Signs With Miami Heat

Yeah i'm disappointed overall, i really thought he was going to stick with the Cavs and i do feel sorry for the fans but a few observations I have of the whole thing are:

    1. Anyone who wishes a player injury because he changes team is a punk, pure and simple. Have some class, move on, at the end of the day it's only basketball.

    2. While the whole tv show aka "the decision" was a full on ego strokefest it still raised millions of dollars for a great charity. Say what you want but at the end of the day those charities are much better off because of this media whoring. No i don't agree with it but at least some good came from it.

    3. This has obviously been in the works since the olympics. I don't believe for a second that he only made up his mind a few hours / days ago. This has been a long term plan for these guys and everything else has just been a song and dance to throw people off.

    4. If LeBron didn't contact Gilbert man to man and actually tell him until it was aired on tv that reeks of a lack of respect and class. Gilbert and and Cavs deserved better than that after 7 years.

    5. That still doesn't absolve Gilbert from acting like a classless fool with that venom filled tirade. Be the bigger man, move on.

    6. I can see why he made the decision from both sides. If he stays in Cleveland that team had very little flexibility and probably wasn't going to win a title any time soon regardless of how well LeBron played. The competition was all getting better and the Cavs were kinda stuck in limbo with untradable assets and unless Hickson was going to develope into a bonafide star (not likely) there was little chance he would win a title there. On the other hand a single championship victory for the team you have struggled with for so long just has to be sweeter than winning multiple titles with a thrown together pseudo-allstar team.

I guess at the end of the day he felt he had to weigh up the risk of possibily winning a title as a 2nd fiddle vs having a Barkley like career where you play well but are never considered a true champion because you couldn't get over the last hump. He took the "easier" way out.

When it's all said and done i love watching LeBron play basketball and i'll continue to do so. Miami (and the rest of the league) will be in for quite a show!

        Good post mate

It's going to be fun anyway from a basketball gaming perspective. I tend to use a team with a post player + who run a lot of pick and roll (mainly used the Jazz this season)......so I'll be using the Bulls I'd say. The East is going to be great fun to play a season through in 2K11. Lots of games v Miami, Boston, Orlando.

I still can't believe the man didn't have the courtesy of calling the Cavs first / did it on LIVE TV. To me, that's unforgivable and I'll never respect him as a man. Basketball wise though, that team will be interesting. No doubt.

It also opens up some interesting possibilities re NBA history...I've never been a Kobe guy......i've always though the "Jordan comparisons" were beyond stupid. However, if Kobe can get number 6 next season...

And then somehow beat Wade-LBJ for number 7......go past Jordan whilst beating the two best players of their era in Wade and LeBron....damm, Kobe's legacy just goes to such a new level / beyond anything anyone could have imagined. That's getting a long way ahead of ourselves obviously. It opens up all sorts of possibilities though.

I hope the Heat don't even win the East Finals.

And great post CV. This is what everyone is talking about. No more rivalries. No challenge.

The non-heat fans who support LeBron's decision are casual ball fans.

Forget about Lebron. The Knicks and NY will move on.

Heres the thing. Not everyone can handle the bright lights. In NY it's different. The challenge is different. My heart goes out to the cavs fans but if you don't realize this is a business your wrong. Lebron owes you nothing. Anthony Rudolph is the man by the way. Seen his mix on youtube before I went to bed last night. BESIDES baby we are NY you gotta be the tuffest of the tuff to play here. Thats all that need to apply. Forget anbout James. Hes a waste of your time!!

              Michael Jordan was the Bulls.

Stockton and Malone were the Jazz.

              Gary Payton was The Sonics.

              Dream was the Rockets.

              Ewing was the Knicks

              KG was the T-Wolves

              Reggie was the Pacers

Yes...some of those guys joined other teams and yes, some "chased rings"...but man, they ALL battled into their 30s and fought until they had little left before chasing rings / moving.

LeBron was The Cavs.............and the dude has bailed out at age 25.

If he'd done this at 30, okay.

Now though...at 25... just screams "defeatist / gutless / scared".

Imagine Michael Jordan bailing on the Bulls after the Pistons knocked out the Bulls........people forget how battered and down he was. But the man stayed and they won when he was 28.

Imagine if MJ bailed at 25 and went to play with Magic in LA? Or went to Boston to play with Larry?

This just screams "I couldn't carry a team......I'm giving up".

              At age 25.

Almost unbelievable and sad to see in a lot of ways.
This is what I was saying earlier, but of course people read it, processed it, and still decided to say "but....but....KG and Ray Allen went to the Celtics....what about the show time Lakers? etc."

It's not about the "super team" people, it's about LBJ trying to be the next MJ and willingly giving up his status as the centerpiece of a team that other players flock to. If he had gone to the Bulls, Clippers, Knicks, Nets, or stayed in Cleveland (a little tougher because of their lack of flexibility) he would have been THE GUY, but he's the one flocking to Wade. Going to the Bulls, Nets, and Knicks (before Amar'e) with Bosh was a possibility, and if the two joined a new team together it would in all likelyhoood still be James' team. But the fact that he turned down all of those scenarios and joined M.I.A points to one man, D-Wade.

Yeah i never thought about that. I've never even considered Kobe a legit "GOAT" challenger to MJ but if he could pull that off you'd have to consider it.

It's hard to see them not getting dominated inside by the Bulls, Celts and Orlando with the current lineup they have proposed.

I don't "support" LeBron's decision at the end of the day but i do kinda see why he did it. I just believe that overall parity makes for a better league and i'm shocked he went to someone else's team. The Knicks or Bulls would still have been seen as "his" team imo whereas the Heat will always be Wade's.

EDIT: Well said nuckles i was just repeating what you said here

Lol. Yeah ok. a few hours ago every Knicks fan was salivating like Pavlov's dogs over the thought of LeBron in MSG (hell FootballOccasionally even guaranteed it ) and now that he's signed elsewhere it's because "he couldn't hack the bright lights if NYC". I don't think so. At least the Knicks are having a very positive offseason so far though, things are looking up....

It's not even about that. It has nothing to to with NYC, and everything to do with that tattoo that LBJ has on his back that says "Chosen 1" but yet he chose to run to MIA with Wade who's already won a title without LBJ.

There's a stark difference between chasing a ring on the back end of your career and saying "ahhhhhh **** it" at 25 and teaming up with a perennial MVP candidate on his team.

Re: LeBron James Signs With Miami Heat

What is lost in this is that before all of this, everyone said "If Lebron wants to win...he'll go here..." and now that Lebron has made a decision based mainly on winning. Everyone is disappointed. Everyone didn't want him to go to NYC, saying winning should be his main priority...and he made this decision based on winning. I am not angry at his decision, and the only people that should be are Cle fans IMO.

I am disappointed in how he did this, and disappointed that we may have another Super team. It's never good for the NBA I feel when there is like 3-4 teams that can win it and all the other teams are just going through the motions.

But other than that meh. His legacy is definitely hurt by this, unless the Heat go on to win bout 5+ championships and then I think no one will really care that he 'piggybacked' onto Wade.

For the Cleveland fans, it sucks but realize you still have your team. Maybe you'll completely suck and draft a player that can help the team move on from this. That's the best thing about American sports, the leagues are built so that teams can't stay down for too long.

It's the biggest challenge. Yes I wanted him. I would love for him to play with my team. But NY IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. It's the biggest stage. Brightest Lights. Most media. You get scrutinized more then anywhere in country. Its obvious Lebron couldnt take the pressure and Challenge of playing in NY or we wouldnt be having this conversation.

Wade had help when he won that ring also. I'm not disagreeing that it has hurt his legacy...it has...but say these guys go on to win 7 rings together...do you really think it will hurt his legacy that much? What if he wins more MVPs, Final MVPs...will it hurt his legacy that much?

Of course if you trying to compare him to Jordan then yeah, but to me it's not that big of a deal. I'm just worried about the parity of the NBA.

The way Lebron set this up, if he picked anywhere but Cleveland he was going to get bad rep for this. I think that's what this is really about, no one seemed that angry about it when SAS thought it could happen a week or two ago.
