The point is not that he's a Yankee fan, it's that amid a media storm of news of his impending free agency in a few years, he wears a Yankee cap where he knows everyone will see it and talk about it. Could it just be harmless coincidence? Sure. Was it? I highly doubt it, especially seeing everything unfold the way it has the past year and a half. If it isn't obvious by now, LeBron wants everything to be about him. The dancing on the sidelines, wearing a Yankee cap to an Indians game, The Decision, everything. It wasn't about the team anymore, it was about him. Where was he going to sign, what is LeBron gonna do, what kind of toilet paper should he use? Once he knew he was gonna form the super douche team with his pals he decided to do everything in his power to center attention on him and his impending free agency. He played the city of Cleveland. He played the media. He played the Cavs. He knew where he was gonna sign two years (plus) in advance, yet made sure to continue to make a big deal about "oh gee whiz guys where am I gonna sign". He knew what he was doing.

edit: damn it, King beat me to it and summed it up in like 2 sentences lol.

As another poster said about a similar conversation: "It's a damn hat"

I've said it again and again, you will never see me argue with a Cleveland fan about LeBron....I've been around CLE and their fans, I understand the history and what has been done there.....I can respect that.

I can even understand other fans general dislike of the guy....but I will probably never understand why other fans take it to that next level....it seems extremely forced most of the time...the nitpicking, the inability to even have a rational conversation about him....it's just mind boggling to me personally. And to those fans I say yes: "Get over it"

          Re: The LeBron James Thread

The hat incident and the dancing incident really don't bother me. In hindsight of course he should have never went to that Yankees/Indians game with a Yankees cap on, but honestly that and the dancing were overblown IMO. There's worse things he could (and did) do. I'll let you guess what.

But let me ask this, if you don't mind: A) Why is he your favorite player? B) Would you accept sort of a true apology, at least for the special thing, and C) Would you accept him if he decided he wanted to come back?
Of course they had a hand in it and deserve a share of the blame. The fact is LeBron is the one that had final say on that. He could have squashed that nonsense in a second by saying one word: no.

And please tell me you don't believe the whole Boys & Girls Club thing was nothing more than an attempt at camouflage for his disgusting acts on that day.

          To answer your questions....

          A) Why is he my favorite player? Well obviously over the past 2 years that's been getting tougher and tougher to answer, lol.

Anyways, his rookie season (and all the immense hype surrounding him) coincided with the same season I fully started to watch basketball, and really a lot of sports in general. Before that I had seen playoff series' here and there -- usually involving the Lakers since that was the peak of the Kobe/Shaq era (thank god I dodged that mammoth-sized bullet of becoming a Lakers fan ) -- but never fully followed the league because before then, I was never really aware of pro sports. I mean, I knew they existed, but still being very young at that time (I'm currently 19) and growing up as an only child with a single mother didn't help matters. So when LeBron came into the league and I seen him play for the first time, I instantly got attached because I loved the way he played. A guy that was the most lethal scoring threat on the floor every night but would just as quickly set up his teammates for easy buckets and knew the importance of passing the ball. You add to that the freakish athleticism, the thunderous dunks, the no-look passes, etc, and I was hooked. And obviously being young as I was at that time, all the hype played a hand in this as well. To top it all off though, I could relate to LeBron. He was an only child with a single mother just like me.

Despite The Decision, I'm still a fan now. Maybe I'm loyal to a fault. Maybe there's a part of me that hopes he didn't actually conspire with Wade and Bosh, and do The Decision to embarrass Cleveland. I don't know. I just can't find myself to hate the guy. I'll call him out on his ****, but I can never fully hate him. I guess because he gave me a lot of the basketball memories I'll have for the rest of my life and more importantly because I grew up with him as a fan.

          B) I don't know. Honestly, I'd rather he just tell his side of the story with 100% honesty. Not the lame, cliched, politically correct version he's tried to give us in the past. I want to know why he chose to go down the path he did and what his true intentions were. Of course I highly doubt we're ever going to get that, at least while he's still playing

          C) Of course I would. In a heartbeat. The thing is, I'm not from Cleveland nor have I ever lived there. If I was, this answer would be the complete opposite, and I can understand why that is also the state of mind of people in Cleveland. The majority of them say they wouldn't want him back and I can't blame them. He burned that bridge on July 8th, 2010. It would take A HELL of a lot of repairing to ever fix that, if at all. I really don't even see this situation ever having the possibility of occurring anyways. Like I said earlier, I think LeBron's made his feelings on Cleveland pretty clear.

For what? I understand WHY fans would be mad; what I DON'T understand is why fans are STILL this upset over something they had no control over.

Also, the reaching over certain things LeBron did, like wearing a fricken hat, is just stupid.

                  Re: The LeBron James Thread

So Kim Kardashian and people of her ilk can be shallow enough to delicately plot out everything they do with they're image in mind or with the intent of setting up promotion of their brand, but it's reaching mentioning LeBron and his Yankee hat?

Like I said I thought the same damn thing when it happened. "It's a ****ing hat Cleveland, seriously relax." My exact words when they were talking about it on Sportscenter and the radio in Cleveland. Again, like I said though, knowing what we know now it wasn't just a hat. If you think for one second LeBron just happened to do that you're kidding yourself. That's what he does, he sits around and thinks up bull**** like that just like the mocking Dirk being sick garbage. At the time that this incident happened, Miami wasn't even a blip on the radar of LeBron locations to go. This was at the time that LeBron going to the Knicks when he opted out was pretty much a foregone conclusion. My man knew what he was doing, seriously.

Yep. I mean, I could understand if LeBron was a Celtic, and he showed up at a Patriots game with a Lakers hat on, you know? Even a Yankees hat. That's legit disrespect right there, given the intense rivalry.

But he had a Yankees hat on, at an Indians game. To me, that means nothing. A LOT of dudes I know have Yankees' hats, and even if they're not fans, that's a really popular hat/team regardless.

Indians playoff game against the yankees.

He also was on the Cowboys sideline, wearing Cowboys stuff when they came to Cleveland.

Smooov at some point if you really wanna understand about the whole saga of LeBron and free agency, you need to sit down one day and go through this thread. Until then, coming in here trying to argue with people about it is indeed nonsense.

I really don't think the hat is a stretch.

As OSU said, people in Akron identify with Cleveland heavily and love Cleveland sports. Why wouldn't they? This is where LeBron grew up, in Akron!!!

It wasn't just a regular game either, it was an Indians playoff game, and you come to the game, supposed to be the hometown kid and savior of a grief stricken sports nation, and you show up in a Yankees hat. That's plain disrespect to me. Do people remember the uproar here when KD wore a Bulls hat? You imagine D-Rose going to a WS game at Wrigley or the Cell and wearing gear from the team they are playing? It would be chaos. When you're an athlete of that stature, and you're representing a state and a city, let alone lived there your whole life, have some decency and respect for that community, regardless of who you like.

I don't think it was a sign of him plotting anything though, I just think it was him being completely ignorant. LeBron doesn't have that much substance to go to that length. All he cares about is being popular, and being cool. Watch his damn documentary, he just wanted to be cool and fit in. So he followed all the cool teams, aka the Yankees/Cowbowys etc.

This isn't the reason I dislike him though. All his showboating and antics on the court and sidelines when he was with Cleveland showed me the type of person he is, and that's not the type of player I like to identify with.
