We're talking about the likes of Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kobe, Wade, Pierce, Duncan, etc.

Which if those guys left their team (the team that they were undisputedly "the man" on) to go join up with another player on that list?

We're talking about the players in the league who have the stature of a megastar. I think you knew that but you decided to ignore that fact just to make your point.

unrestircited free agency came into the nba in 1988: history of nba salary cap system, so alot of the older vets who said they would never do this don't really have a comparable spot in there career when they were on the edge of entering their prime on a team that was under achieving.

Also Duncan was openly recruiting Kidd when Kidd was a FA, and this was after SA had just won a chip with Parker who was a rookie I believe. kobe has asked out on more than one occassion only to change his mind after the team made moves to keep him happy. Magic/Bird were drafted by teams with HOF'ers up and down the roster. Wade and Pierce were the benefactor of players coming to their teams via free agency and trades. Shaq was traded to the Heat, so Wade remembers how easier the game was with another bonafide star.

You don't need to be in a comparable spot to know that you want to be the leader, that's not isolated to sports. There will always be leaders and followers in life, you can easily look inside and determine whether or not you'd be able to sit back and watch another man lead the team that you're on.

That's something that you'd be able to tell about a person in middle school. Are you the one taking the lead everytime there was a group project or were you the person slumping down in your seat listening to everyone else? Are you the one gathering the members of your group together and saying "come on guys, we're gonna have the best project in the class" or are you one of the people being gathered?

I'm not buying the notion that if certain players could have joined up they would have. Just because a handful of stars did so doesn't mean that the Durant's, Rose, and Roy's of the NBA are going to follow suit. We'll have to wait and see what they do in the future.

And describing dudes being drafted to a team and staying with that team and having a contender built around them is only proving my point, what do you think Wade just did? What's the difference between Kobe getting help in LA, Pierce getting help in Boston, Duncan recruiting a future HOFer to come to his team, and Wade orchestrating this whole Miami thing? In all of those scenarios you have a player on the team that drafted him, wanting a contender built around him, not wanting to go join another all-star's team to form a contender.

So actually...I guess the notion of "well guys back in the day don't know what they would have done" is moot, because as long as Kobe wears a Lakers jersey, Duncan a Spurs jersey, Pierce a Celtics jersey, and Wade a Heat jersey, we have 4 guys in the league right now who operate under the current FA rules, and in all of their scenarios they have people running to their teams to follow them, they're not running to join anyone else's team.

I agree with you nuckles, but your argument is falling on deaf ears. No matter how many different ways you try to paint the same picture, some just won't get it.

I like how you all are trying to paint this as LBJ being scared and desparate to join dwade when every piece of evidence points to all of them planning this years ago. I would even argue that wade wanted this more considering his comments around the trade deadline. Im like 95% sure the only way this even happened in MIA is because of the income tax and wade would have easily been gone if there were a better city. I think what all of this comes down to is three friends decided to play together, some old-timers(Bird,Magic,Barkley,MJ) are goin on about how stuff was in there day, and alot of butt-hurt fans are complainin and talking about legacies the players themselves don't even seem to care about. God this season can't come soon enough........

People are talking about points falling on deaf ears, but fail to miss my point. The only person on everybody list that had to make a tough decision was Jordan. Everybody else was on championship teams already.

Okay so Lebron isn't the competitive superstar that Michael Jordan was. Who ever said he was? That's the fans and media's fault for buying into/creating the hype.

                  And back around we go...

A certain somebody, it appears, embraced and accepted that hype for the past 7 years. A certain someone talked some time ago about "preparing himself to be better than Jordan..." It wasn't just the media and the fans who either believed this or wanted to make it appear that he was assuming this role as "The Chosen One."

^ But the above points have been made 1000x in this thread so I'll just leave it at this.

P.S., It wasn't the media or the fans who orchestrated a recent party in Miami with crown shaped cakes and women holding up "K-I-N-G" signs.

I think LBJ said he was. That is if he was going to work extra hard to get beyond MJ. How sincere was this interview? I dunno, but those were his words and that's his tattoo. So I'll take what he said in the past over what you're saying now.

The Choosen 1 is a nickname. Is Kobe Bryant an actual snake? Is Allen Iverson really an answer? Is Paul Peirce really the truth? Is Grayson Boucher an actual professor?

Lebron isn't a competitor anymore because he went to a team with other stars? Lebron is still the best player on that Heat roster and to say that he will turn to Wade to do everthing important at all times is slightly ridiculous.

Wade and Bron are playing for championships not to see how well they can do by themselves going against stacked teams like the Celtics, Magic, and Lakers.

As has been said a billion times, Magic and Bird were drafted onto rosters with Hall of Famers, Kobe and Pierce wanted to be traded if their teams couldn't get better players, and Wade and Duncan strongly considered leaving in free agency.

If Kobe was traded to Chicago would the Bulls have been Kobe's team or Dengs? If Lebron goes to New York or New Jersey was he joining Amare or Devin Harris' team? Did he join Z's team?

OK and who's to say he wont have a better career than MJ? He is 25 years old and if he remains healthy he's looking at close to another decade of high level basketball.

I didnt know we had psychic's on this message board.

There are a lot of factors that will come into play that will never allow LeBron to have a better career than MJ.
