Everyone is acting like a tool when it comes to Lebron.

I don't see why he should be exempt.

As little sense as I think it makes to speak about yourself in the third person it's not a good reason to hate a person. Neither is self promoting for that matter. If this is the case we should hate every actor and any athlete's that does commercials or go on talk-shows or any other form of self promoting.

I don't believe it's an act.

I think he's done trying to be PC and is speaking his mind/feelings and I really believe he is THIS much of a tool. He's been privileged and spoiled beyond belief since he was 13-14 years old. I know enough from spending time with people who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth from NYC or Cape Cod and those people are bad enough by and large - and LBJ is pretty much them times million. If some obscure tool who's daddy owns a hedge fund can be as big of a herb as I've witnessed then I have no doubts that LBJ isn't putting on a show here.

It also doesn't make any sense that such a popular and beloved athlete who already had an insane amount of attention would go on a scripted heel turn. Guys like Ocho Cinco, TO and Mayweather act a fool for the attention, LBJ didn't need to - he already had all the attention in the world and it was mostly positive.

I hate to say it but in a way he's a microcosm of what our country has become. Self-entitled, narcissistic, attention-starved and looking for the easiest path to success with the least amount of hard work involved.

Your on the right path, but like most end up at the wrong place I think. LeBron's reality is not the same as are own. Thats just a fact. You can't fit his situation into the "world view", lol.

My take is that someone early in his formative years, maybe his moms, maybe Jigga, maybe his defacto dad, maybe coach Dambrot...someone imprinted on his physche the fact that everyone is going to want something from him, or only care about his ability to play basketball for them, and not who he is as a person. That is true, and believe it or not, those are two wholly separate entities. Thus, LeBron has a 6-foot thick concrete wall around himself. Everyone close to LeBron IDOLIZES the kid and uniformly call him a caring, goofy, shirt-off-his-back type great person. Everyone outside of that circle of trust might as well not exist. He's built a contempt for people he views as "users", which extends to pretty much everyone outside of the peeps he grew up with. Anyone who has heard Dan Gilbert on air when he bullies his way into the broadcast booth would probably agree..dude comes off as a complete tool, a rich dude with a Napoleonic complex. He always gives Fred McCloud the business to the point that it almost borders on disrespectful, and just about flat out called the man gay on air one time ...both Fred and A.C sound so uncomfortable forced to laugh at the boss's bad jokes. I guarantee he and LeBron were never close. And as quickly as a city that adored him turned on him proves him right as well. We've all helped build this hype train he's on..kinda silly and self-serving to act like it should have never formed who he is. IMO, the third person thing is just an uneducated kid having no skill in articulating his thoughts outside of soundbites and interview freindly statements. I really doubt he refers to himself in 3rd person when he's chillin with freinds and family, just my opinion.

I don't think LeBron is looking for an easy way out...I just think he doesn't care what people think about the fact that he wants to play with his buddies, and since history has never punished greats for playing with other greats, history will likewise forgive LeBron for how this all came about, as long as they win. Based on all his comments, he doesn't see a team of minimum salary players as an easy road.

I hate whats happened with Bronny Bron as much as the next guy, probably more...but the utter lack of perspective in all things James related is getting out of hand.

If LeBron feels very motivated by what Dan Gilbert said about him after "The Decision", it's too bad that Gilbert didn't say those things before Game 5 of the Boston series.

Well thought out and articulated post, HMcCoy. I gotta disagree about LeBron being "uneducated." LeBron wasn't a Brandon Jennings-type, foregoing college because he didn't pass basic academic standards/tests, on the contrary. The dude was a honor roll student and probably could have gone to Stanford or Duke. LeBron is just as intelligent, articulate and calculating as any other current athlete.

I agree that his need to speak about himself in 3rd person has something to do with an inability to express himself otherwise. Or maybe it's because he feels there is a separation between LeBron the man and "LeBron" the brand. Yet, it clearly isn't from him lacking a proper education.

Gilbert does come off as a douche from what I've seen of him on television. Plus, people need to remember that Gund was still the owner when LeBron first arrived. Gilbert may have tried to win over LeBron by giving him "privileges," but doesn't mean LeBron didn't see his time in Cleveland as anything more than a business arrangement.

Yet, it all comes back to the simple fact that people have both enabled and exploited this guy since his adolescences. Obviously that has manifested itself into the person that is seen today. The people that have been around him since then, and we the adoring public, are just as much to blame. He's got an inflated sense of self-worth because he puts a ball in a "basket." Although, he's never been an any legal trouble nor endangered the lives of other people.

Agreed. From personal experience, it's a big jump from 'honor roll student' to the Dukes or Stanfords of the world.

Apparently he had a 3.75 GPA, though I'd question the validity of that knowing the breaks star athletes get from HS teachers.

Almost every celebrity has a 'public vs private' persona, that is nothing new and doesn't explain or justify the last three months. As I mentioned earlier, LeBron's behavior and the circumstances around it are different from other attention whoring celebs. He also sure as hell isn't the first prodigy to be warned about the dangers of hanger-ons and 'everyone wanting something' from him.

I'd also hope everyone who's close to him thinks highly of him, they're riding his coattails and live a vastly better life than they ever would have if they didn't happen to be friends with LBJ growing up. No one's going to bite the hand that feeds them.

And I don't see how you can say that everyone outside of his circle "might as well not exist". That seems like it couldn't be further from the truth, LeBron is an egomaniac and an attention whore. You don't schedule The Decision, dance on the sidelines during games or act like a giant tool if you don't care about all the "users" or non-insiders around you. You can cut off those people from reaping the benefits of knowing you but there's no way that LBJ doesn't yearn to amaze those people and is still constantly searching for approval and attention. Anyway, point is that you can easily be a pro athlete and be conscious of the perils of your fame without being a giant tool like LeBron.

As for his comments about going to Miami, of course he's going to put a lesser spin on it. Minimum salary players are much different in Miami since guys were taking paycuts to go there. It's not like they have Wade/LBJ/Bosh/Miller and 8-10 12th men on their team. Plus that's only for this coming season, once the exceptions kick in the Heat will be insane. He believes his own BS sadly.
