Re: The LeBron James Thread
I really don't think the hat is a stretch.
As OSU said, people in Akron identify with Cleveland heavily and love Cleveland sports. Why wouldn't they? This is where LeBron grew up, in Akron!!!
It wasn't just a regular game either, it was an Indians playoff game, and you come to the game, supposed to be the hometown kid and savior of a grief stricken sports nation, and you show up in a Yankees hat. That's plain disrespect to me. Do people remember the uproar here when KD wore a Bulls hat? You imagine D-Rose going to a WS game at Wrigley or the Cell and wearing gear from the team they are playing? It would be chaos. When you're an athlete of that stature, and you're representing a state and a city, let alone lived there your whole life, have some decency and respect for that community, regardless of who you like.
I don't think it was a sign of him plotting anything though, I just think it was him being completely ignorant. LeBron doesn't have that much substance to go to that length. All he cares about is being popular, and being cool. Watch his damn documentary, he just wanted to be cool and fit in. So he followed all the cool teams, aka the Yankees/Cowbowys etc.
This isn't the reason I dislike him though. All his showboating and antics on the court and sidelines when he was with Cleveland showed me the type of person he is, and that's not the type of player I like to identify with.
BUT, at the same time, that's not disrespect to me. If he's a Yankees fan, then be a fan. He's not obligated to kiss a** just because he lived in a certain city. Now, if he did something like, hypothetically, Derrick Rose going to a Bears home game with a Packers jersey on, then yes I could understand all hell breaking loose.
I DO agree with the ignorant thing though. I mean, this is a kid at heart, he's not a Kobe-type or anything, a guy who would strategically calculate his moves. You can look at his posts on Facebook and Twitter (if you care to) and tell, this isn't a guy who takes life too seriously. To put it simply, he kid of lives in the moment, probably without regard to long-term ramifications, like most young guys do (including me sometimes,). I think he looked at it as him supporting one of his favorite teams, without thinking of how it would add to a media firestorm.

Hmm, didn't know it was against the Yankees in the Playoffs.

So it has to be a rival team for it to matter? HUH?Last edited by 1Rose; 02-16-2012, 01:53 PM.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Well there's a defined dislike between Bears fans and Packer fans: We don't like each other.
I'm saying, unless I'm missing something, there isn't a rivalry between Cleveland and the Yankees. So in my opinion, it's not disrespectful.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Never said I cared for his "gun" celebration, but to compare his antics to ALL the crap LeBron has done is a pretty far stretch.Last edited by 1Rose; 02-16-2012, 02:02 PM.Comment

If your issue is with celebrating on the court and sidelines like you said....there's a long list....just thought it was interesting is all...Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
So you're saying you don't mind players having full on jig dancing sessions while a game is occuring? I guess I have a threshold of tolerance for showboating, and LeBron, along with quite a few other players, break it.
