Now I'm not "Pro LeBron" or anything. But I honestly think that is an invalid argument.
Are we just assuming that if Jordan went straight to the league, he'd win a chip in 6 years? You cant do that.
I dont think college makes a player better OVER TIME. I do believe that it makes a player better in the short term.
While a lot of it comes from coaching, I think even more of it comes from the fact that a player goes from dominating bums in high school to playing against teams that he cant just run over. In college, every team is going to have guys that are bigger, faster, and maybe even better than you. Plus coaching is a hell of a lot better at the college level compared to high school.
So night after night a former top high school prospect is going to be challenged by some if the best competition in the world. Not to mention he's going to receive heavy minutes in the rotation as well as being expected to be THE man on the team and lead his team when they need him. Not only that, but their body is more developed upon leaving college than high school.
It gives a player time to hone his game some before stepping to the big leagues and to grow into their body. So when they finally get there, they will be a lot better off and "nba ready" than someone who just came from high school playing against bummy competition. But I only think that helps players in their earlier years.
Over time, I think we start to see diminishing returns on that investment from playing in college and by, say, 30 college ball has little to do with how good a player is at this stage in his career.
So lets say player A is our college athlete. And player B is our high school athlete.
I think its a fair assumption that Player A will be a better player at about 22 yrs of age than Player B. But then we look at what most consider a players prime around 28-30, I dont think we would have any clue who would be better.
So with all that being said, I dont think LeBron should be knocked before he's even hit his prime years and that age is a much more fair way to look at things than years in the league.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
I guarantee you that if Lebron had even showed up for the Finals the two times he's been there he wouldn't be labeled a failure. Lebron's label has more to do with his amazing disappearing act than his team's ability to get him a ring."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Yeah, I don't know how anyone can even allow themselves to think that LeBron pulled some disappearing act in the Finals that year. It was a small miracle that THAT particular Cavs team was even there.Comment

Especially when you have Larry Hughes as your second leading scorer.PSN: MajorJosephxComment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
In 07 he didnt choke, Spurs did a great job that year exposing his weakness which was shooting. The defense we played that year heading up to the finals was something great to see. We stood a chance with them with our defense but with Hughes going down we had no one to defend TP. Will never forget game 5 and game 6 of that DET series, one of the best Cavs memories I have from that team.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Tony Parker was just unguardable .
He would take you left, then right, then take ten take you left again.
all in under a second.
Destroyed the Cavs.
Overall, the Spurs played like a team, and thats what wins championships.PSN: MajorJosephxComment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
It was his coming out party lol. No one on the Cavs could defend him. I agree they were the better team and more WAY more experienced. No one can take blame individually for the Cavs losing, they all failed as a team on both ends of the floor.Comment

Re: The LeBron James Thread
I think people were well aware of Tony Parker before the 2007 Finals...NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
NBA: Dallas Mavericks
MLB: Texas Rangers
NHL: Dallas Stars
NCAA: Alabama Crimson Tide

Re: The LeBron James Thread
Should of said it in a different way. He was the best player on the Spurs when they won, however back then, a lot of fans(mostly casual), thought he was over rated.Comment
