Is Derrick Rose a top 5-10 player in the NBA over the next decade?

I got into a debate in which I said I would rather have Rose over any other PG if I had to "choose" for the future.

    Ok, other contenders would be.......

CP3 - It's a wash for me and I would rather have a younger player.
Derron Williams - Derron Williams is a better scorer the Rose, but I would rather have Rose's upside intangibles, and defense.
Rondo - Rondo is just surrounded by superior talent to Rose, all things being equal Rose is better.

    Preparing to be flamed.
If someone says they would rather have John Wall, I am going to drive to their place of residence and kick them in the shin.

I love Rose's game, have since Memphis. I think he'll be as good as any PG in the league very shortly, so yeah, I'll say Top 10 no doubt. Not sure on Top 5 though, that's lofty territory.

I guess any players not named Durant or Lebron. It becomes a matter of personal preference as far as the value you place on a given position.

After those two. 3-20 become somewhat interchangeable.

Not at all. The difference between #3 and #20 is HUGE. That's the difference between someone like Wade and someone like Boozer/Granger/Iggy/you get the point.

          It's possible, but I don't think it's a lock.

The only "for sure" players I'd put on the list are Lebron, Durant, and Howard with Melo being the next most likely.

          The problems with Rose are:

          1. There are so many good young point guards

          2. Top point guards don't win championships

Because of that I'd be hesitant to say he'll be a top 10 player. I think top is probably out of the question unless Lebron goes to Chicago.

I don't really know. There are a lot of really good point guards. I think in 5 years he might be at best the fouth or fifth best PG in the league. Behind D Williams, CP3, Rondo, and maybe Westbrook or Wall. So if you look at it that way, then no.

Think you're underselling Rondo. Look at the Finals, KG and PP have been non-existent, the constant has been Rondo. I'd take Rondo over Rose, and I'd only take Rose over Rondo if I didn't have another slick scoring G or F.

Other than being from Chicago, what makes you foresee Rose as a top 5-10 player when there are likely 2 to 3 PGs considered better than him, and one perhaps on his way...

Rondo will never get respect until he goes to another team. Oh well.

Rose will be top ten barring injury. The guy has the "it" factor.

Howard, LBJ, CP3, Williams, Durant, Wade, Bosh, Rose, Rondo = top 9

Which is a big shame because the Boston show is not the Big 3 and Rondo anymore. It's Rondo and friends.

I understand it though, one would really have to sit and watch Boston throughout the season to see that Rondo has been their best player for over a year.

I have noticed it since last year in the playoffs.

I would love to see him on another team though, it would be very interesting.

Rose's best games did come against Rondo in the playoffs last year.

Rose just has speed, strength, and intangibles I dont think the other PG's have.

I guess we will see how good he is when the Bulls supporting cast takes some shape

The bulls have no post presence or perimeter presence and they found a way to make the playoffs.

That's fine, but do you also remember how Rondo performed against Chicago last year?

There's no doubt that Rondo is below CP3, Willams and even Rose, but Rondo is making his way up to be certain.

Rondo almost averaged a triple double in that series. People never remember how nasty he was in that series. He's pretty much carried the C's for the past 2 yrs.

Apart from being a beast from 15-18 feet, I don't see Rose having a clear advantage over Rondo.

He's gotta tighten that jumper for sure.
