Dan Gilbert.

In response to LeBron James' decision to join the Miami Heat next season, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has written a letter to fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers, which can currently be seen on the Cavaliers' website. The tone of the letter was not pro-LeBron. Here are some excerpts:
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment...

...You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER 'KING' WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

    Sorry if already posted.

I couldn't stop laughing when they showed this on ESPN.

Maybe had they shown the same commitment to winning at some point during the 7 years they had him he would still be a a Cleveland Cavalier.

Wish I could take him on that bet about Cleveland winning a championship before him though.

Gilbert enabled and screwed up with LeBron...but LeBron threw them under the bus and Gilbert said "Screw it, your secrets are coming out."

Gilbert has nothing to lose, he's going to take responsibility but he's going to take LeBron with him.

                      Yeah I don't doubt that.

Would have been nice to see Gilbert just move on, but I can't really blame him for this open letter. He has to save face to try and keep people excited enough to go see Cleveland games now that they probably aren't a playoff team.

                        Re: Dan Gilbert.

I agree that the whole making a spectacle thing of free agency was wrong. I don't like how that was handled.

LBJ exercised his rights in free agency. He fulfilled his 7 years there and decided he wants to leave. Gilbert is complaining about his narcissism and sell-promotion, not once mentioning that he enabled that same behavior out of his star. You marketed him as the King, as the next one. He failed at bringing you to a ring, but you also failed yourself. Talk about "they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there"? Am I missing something or hasn't James dragged a pretty average team to the finals one year?

Disloyalty for leaving? It's his right as directed by the CBA. LBJ was an *** about the way it was done, but it's his right to choose where he wants to play.

It is a bitter, but I don't blame him for it. They did the best they could with what they had and fell short, anger is expected. The Cavs lost their best player, Ohio lost one of their sons. They should be mad, but directing all that anger at LBJ alone is misguided.

It's really nice to finally see someone come out and blast a superstar player, probably the best player in the NBA. All the time the players are blasting owners who are paying them millions and millions of dollars, I'm so glad Gilbert did this and I think it's warranted.

Nah, they are completely justified to hate his guts and to boo him out of Cleveland. Burn every jersey in that city I say.
