wouldn't the post-lakers championship years up until the celtics reign be the actual lowest the league had sunk? all of its marketable players were lacking (kobe - image, team; lebron - team; duncan - personality; shaq - father time) and there wasn't much to be excited for. i wouldn't call this a golden age, but it's a bright period, for sure.

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
Dallas would probably trade their entire roster, sans Nowitzki (Dirk has a no trade clause anyway) to get Paul
Butler, JJB, and Beaubois for Paul works

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
Being a child of the 1980's, I would consider the 80's by far and away THE golden age of the NBA. The league's been in a steady state of decline since that time, from my perspective. I can't see how what we are in now in any way, shape, or form could be considered a golden age...I see it as the absolute nadir of a league that was already in decline.
Memories get better with age, and while the 80s were great for basketball (and little else), I think the product nowadays is just as good (or better).Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
It's more a ****ty ownership and inept management type thing.
Unfortunately for Paul, a new GM is 5 years too late and is nothing more than a band-aid. Paul had the misfortune of being drafted to one of the worst organizations in the league.
I could argue that Shinn is worse than Sterling and Sarver. Hint: that's not good. Those three are the Mt. Rushmore of awesome[ly bad] owners.
Agreed 100%Comment

And our basketball ops was literally just cleaned out. Trust me. I know all about our mom & pop run team. And that's changing as we speak. We literally just fired FOUR people and that's cleaning house. Hell, our scouting department was two people deep. Two people. Didn't even have a scout just to look over other NBA teams. That's been one of the biggest differences between the Saints and Hornets. Now the gap is closing. Dell Demps is bringing in an entire new staff.
This won't be the same team. But CP3's probably already made up his mind, which is a crying shame.
His loss in the end if he's traded.
Hornets were never a bad team, mediocre, but not bad. That could easily change.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
That's awesome news Eman
Still this all happened too late in CP3's campaign there. What's the best case scenario for turning the team around?
Maybe 2 or 3 years? That's too long for Paul and his questionable knee.
However it all comes back to the fact that Paul has no power in this situation. He will probably have no choice but to play out this season and pray that new management can get him help next Summer.
If things remain relatively the same next year, I will buy into trade rumors much more.
This year they are a long shot for the playoffs in a stacked West.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
How quickly we turn around depends completely on what our 2nd year players Collison and Thornton have improved on and how well does everyone else, namely our two new rooks, buy into what Monty Williams can do. If Thornton becomes an efficient 20point a game player and Collison cuts down on the turnovers, we could be in really good shape in short order.
But hearing how Demps has already isolated and addressed one of the Hornets biggest weakness outside of straight basketball is quite promising.
And it also tells me that Chouest might become the full owner sooner than some think.
It very well may be too late to keep CP3, but if we improve over the longterm by losing him, then that's a necessary sacrifice.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
This is for a whole other discussion entirely, so we'll have to agree to disagree. I think the players are more athletic, better coached, better trained, and there are more influences from all over the world which has allowed the game to expand on many levels.
Memories get better with age, and while the 80s were great for basketball (and little else), I think the product nowadays is just as good (or better).
But the 80's were a pretty rollicking time - great for a LOT else than pro basketball.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
Now, you can say that the Hornets are limited because Paul's list is short, but I think it's the complete opposite. The Hornets don't have to trade him and Paul won't sit out. So, the Hornets can say: "Hey, Paul wants to play there but we don't have to move him. Give us this and we'll start to think about it."
If Demps is ready to be a GM then that will be his first move. Put the pressure on the teams Paul wants to join and take them for everything you want. Everyone wants Paul and now the Hornets can focus on a few teams and pin them against each other."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
The Knicks top the list of teams Hornets point guard Chris Paul would like to be traded to, according to sources.
The Magic are second on the list, ahead of the Mavericks and Trail Blazers.
In the ideal scenario, Paul wants to team with Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire in New York.
The Knicks signed Stoudemire to a $100 million deal earlier this month. Anthony is under contract with the Nuggets through the 2010-11 season and reports have indicated that he is expected to sign an extension.
"Those guys want to beat the three guys in Miami," a source close to the situation said.
The Hornets have scheduled to face-to-face meeting with Paul on Monday, when he will meet with new general manager Dell Demps for the first time.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
The one possible advantage is for the organization. When the Knicks hear that Paul wants to play there, who comes calling?

Im curious what kind of package they would want for him. Im sure the Hornets would want the other team to take back a couple of bad contracts. New Orleans could get a lot of flexibility by trading him to Dallas but I doubt the Hornets are real keen on trading him to a division rivalComment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
CP is not going anywhere and he has no leverage whatsoever to force NO to move him. Dude is basically getting paid near max money, openly talking about going to other teams and is now REPORTEDLY demanding a trade in public?
Shut cho' *** up, suit up and play since you're not going anywhere anytime soon. He forgets that if NO's Front Office was bold enough, he could be humbled real quick in this since he has no say in where he wants to go at all.Last edited by ProfessaPackMan; 07-22-2010, 04:09 PM.#RespectTheCultureComment
