Re: Carmelo Anthony Traded To New York
First off, it's not because Felton is so great, it's because Billups is a decaying corpse who is getting worse and slower. He's going to crash and burn in D'Antoni's system.
Second, Whatever makes you feel better now, I guess.
A year or two from now, though, you'll probably be wishing you waited for CP3 or D-Will and not Melo.Too Old To Game Club

Re: Carmelo Anthony Traded To New York
This.
Anthony is a great player, but they gave up a lot. BUT they will end up with Paul or Williams in a year or 2. It's already written. Paul "hinted" after Lebron went to Miami. But if they see whats happening in Miami, you can't gut your team and expect Amare and Anthony to wave their wand over the team and make a bad supporting cast suddenly play great. Only time will tell.Comment

Re: Carmelo Anthony Traded To New York
I thought it was too for most of this debacle over the last few months. But I think it boils down to the fact that Melo was never going to be a FA. He was signing that extension whether it was in Denver, NJ or NY and Denver (and the Knicks) knew that was the case."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Carmelo Anthony Traded To New York
Revised deal:
NY -
Carmelo Anthony
Chauncey Billups
Shelden Williams
Anthony Carter
Renaldo Balkman
Corey Brewer (from Minnesota)
Denver -
Wilson Chandler
Raymond Felton
Danilo Gallinari
Timofey Mozgov
NY's 2014 first-round draft pick
Warriors' 2012 second-round pick (from David Lee sign and trade to GS)
Warriors' 2013 second-round pick (from David Lee sign and trade to GS)
$3 million in cash (from Knicks)
Minnesota -
Anthony Randolph
Eddy Curry
$3 million in cash (from Knicks)
Denver also saves 14 million in salary, won't pay tax. Also there's a question about the first round pick NY is trading since they are supposedly not allowed to do it. Could be another team's pick or the protections have changed on their 2012 pick to Houston.Last edited by Kully; 02-21-2011, 11:40 PM.Comment

Denver's #1 motivation all year was not to end up like Cleveland or Toronto. As long as they could get something, I don't think they would have held on to him. At the very least we could have pushed it to the deadline.
Melo does not compare to the FA's last summer. No one knew what Lebron was thinking. We were just one of 5 teams in the running. This summer we would not be competing against a bunch of other good destinations with cap space, and we know that Melo's #1 choice is New York.

Yes, I'm happy with getting the best scorer in the NBA. It makes me feel better now. Obviously I'd prefer Deron Williams but there are way too many things that can happen between now and the time those guys would hit the FA market.
We'll just disagree on Billups, we'll see come post season."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Carmelo Anthony Traded To New York
Yep, that's why I'm not crying over it.
Plus, when you look back, Denver won all of 2 playoff series (both in the same year) since they drafted Melo. Granted, they were terrible before Melo came to Denver but still, not a ton of postseason production since 2003.
Denver starting over is OK with me. I'll be supportive, and I'll hop on the Knicks bandwagon (make room, ehh) because of Melo.
The rumors got old but I'm so glad this didn't end up like 'The Decision, Pt. 2'Currently Playing:

Re: Carmelo Anthony Traded To New York
I am excited to have him, we'll be a good team for years to come. I just don't know how we are going to get the rest of the pieces needed to win a championship but we'll see.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment
