NBA To Impose New Guidelines For Technicals

LOL @ their attempt to make it seem like they actually care about their reffing.

NBA announces 'air punches' are technical-worthy now? Be prepared, @LakersNation, because KB24 just added about 20 more techs to his game. about 2 hours ago via TweetDeck
Heh, at least they know. Something I've been complaining about for YEARS now. He does everything in those bullet points, like exactly as written.

Hopefully it helps to clean the game up a bit, but at the same time, I hate giving refs even MORE control.

I hate it and love it at the same time. Weird.

And yeah, cry baby Kobe probably won't get through half the season if they enforce these rules. Kiss a three peat goodbye as well because we all know he gets crankier when the playoffs roll around.

I just wanna see which ref has the cojones to give Kobe his second technical after he claps his hand when a foul was not called on his drive in the final minutes of the game.

I think the NBA are just protecting themselves from the bad reffying (if thats even a word). They keep getting on the players but what has been done to counter the bad calls?

I don't like where this is going. Guys have been doing those things for years. Now all of a sudden you can't tell him he can't express how he felt about a call?

So has Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. I've seen many of times where they would cry and complain to the refs. NOW, they didn't do it on the level of a Rasheed Wallace BUT still according to these rules you can get a tech for just looking crazy at a ref. Can you image if these rules were enforced back then how many times Jordan would be close to being ejected from a game?

They'll attempt to enforce these rules but I bet you by mid-season they'll lax on the rules again.

Guys I'm sorry this is very stupid. Very very stupid.

First off basketball is an emotional game. You have to be able to express yourself in a "controlled non threating way".

Second..."Air punches"...Look... if they are going to call "Air punches" on defense (complains). They should call them on offense as well. Every player in the league throws air punches.

I was going to let someone else post it. But I'll let someone else have the fun of that. Remember when Paul Peirce threw a "Air Punch" during the playoffs and it actually connected.... haha

Re: NBA To Impose New Guidelines For Technicals

Methinks that these new guidelines will be enforced just as strictly as the "flopping" guidelines were. As in, not at all. Too many star players whine and complain, they can't be throwing them out of games. That would be even worse for their "business."

EDIT: LOL at the term "air punch." Sounds like a Street Fighter move.

For some reason all I can think of is fist pumping lol

Why don't they impose new guidelines for traveling or carrying? As in actually calling them resulting in turnovers.

I can understand them wanting to remove some of this stuff. I know I find myself yelling "Stop crying and get back down court". But I dont want games being impacted because of it.

Great post from the comments on that article:

                        Problem: Bad refereeing.
Solution: Give the refs more power.
                        NBA: Where stupid happens.

It's things like this that have driven former fans like me away. And I'm never coming back.

This is just going to result in inconsistency that will piss everyone off. I honestly didn't see complaining as a problem. Crappy reffing, yes. Complaining, no. Flopping? Yes. Traveling? Still. Carrying? Yup. Air punching? Come on. It happens, a guy gets T'ed up or he doesn't and then it's over. Last thing we need is superstars not playing because they gave a harmless emotional reaction.

Hey refs, here's an idea. Give technical-worthy reactions....a technical!

Its OBVIOUS what a technical should be. Jeez.
