    MJ's HoF Speech

Why does everyone say it was a bad speech or whatever? I heard that the HoF thing in Lebron's commercial was a shot at MJ because of his controversial speech or whatever but I just watched the whole thing on Youtube and I thought it was really good and wasn't mean or anything like that.

I was wondering the same thing since I enjoyed it myself.

I didn't sense any shots at MJ in LeBron's ad.

      Re: MJ's HoF Speech

Basically all the talking heads and sports writers hated it because they feel MJ's ego was going crazy and that he was being petty by going after everyone who wronged him. They felt he should have let it go and not been an 'a-hole' about the thing. LeBron's commercial is a shot because it's basically saying he could be the best player ever, go to the HOF and have no one not even bother to show up. It's clever cause it relates to what Bron was going through and it can be taken either way by the viewer which makes it a veiled shot.

MJ's speech at the HOF reminded me of Bernie Macs at the beginning of Mr. 3000, lol

MJ wasnt THAT bad, but still...

I didn't enjoy MJ's speech but I didn't like it either. Thought it could've been a lot better

John Stockton's, on the other hand, was amazing.

Stockton knew to leave the competitiveness on the court.

I never really saw the big deal with it myself, then again it's Jordan so every fart he makes gets over-analyzed.

I'm with you. I mean, it's his Hall of Fame speech. Isn't that where you're supposed to be allowed to tell your story? If he had never said that stuff and then said it in an interview or a book or something some day everyone would say he's just bitter or something. I thought it was a pretty entertaining speech and I didn't think he really attacked anyone at all.

Actually, the "shot" at Jordan in the LeBron commercial was when he said "Should I just sell shoes?"

MJ is quoted as saying "Republicans buy shoes too" after not endorsing a democratic nominee. Basically, the whole shot was that LeBron shouldn't do anything extracurricular aside from playing basketball and being a company man and sell his shoes. MJ is loved because not only did he win on the court, he never alienated anyone off it. LeBron hasn't won yet, but he already has turned some people aback for numerous reasons, most recently, The Decision. The Media is mad because they pegged him as the next Jordan, but he hasn't lived up to those lofty expectations just yet, so they criticize everything he does...DESPITE the fact that LeBron is a guy who has never been remotely in trouble (I don't even think he's been suspended a game in the NBA).

MJ is loved because he played the vast majority of his career before the internet and ESPN turning into TMZ.

If MJ played now he'd be as hated as Kobe, Lebron, etc.

I do think that's true, unfortunately.

MJ was worse than Tiger Woods with the women...gambled, punched a team mate...and a lot more.

In his era though, the media could be manipulated...and he (and NIKE) were the masters at it.

Now though...we live in an era where there's so many forms of media and it's so constant that no one can control it once it turns bad. Tiger Woods had a billion$$$ media campaign behind him and still dropped in popularity at dramatic rates when his crap hit the fan.

                            Different world now.

Jordan wasn't always revered as the saint of basketball. When I grew up he was the epitome of what was wrong with professional basketball, not what was right.

People only began to accept Jordan because he won. Its hard to criticize 6 rings. Same with Kobe and Magic for that matter.
