Pretty much. Skip Bayless is still the best and by best I mean absolute worst.

So when Derrick has a bad game, he continues to hold it agains him as an indictment for why he isn't the MVP throughout the rest of the year. Kobe is the MVP because he's come on since the All-Star break. Since when does half a year make someone an MVP? If the roles were flipped and Derrick was in Kobe's position right now, doing what Kobe is doing and Kobe was in Derrick's position, no way would dudes be talking about 'there's a long way to go in this race' with friggin 12 games left on the schedule.

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?

        in this order
Rose- Really who can stop this man right now, best point in the game right now (even though im a celtics fan)
Dwight/Kobe- Both have not been that great until after all-star weekend but Kobe has a slight edge
Dirk- The best PF as of right now
KD- He always seems to amaze me I think he's averaging 30 ppg, he was robbed of MVP by the guy I wont mention
Pierce- You know I had to put a Celtic in their somewhere

Lebron didnt make this list because he doesnt earn to make MVP anymore in his career unless he leaves Miami and goes somewhere by himself. I agree with him 08-09 MVP, but like I said KD should have won last year.

I still feel like having someone of equal caliber in Wade should disqualify LeBron's MVP chances. Even LeBron said so himself.

It's funny watching that Lakers/Suns game, Kobe "The Closer" was unable to close the game, yet that was not brought up. Derrick Rose's 30 and 10 in 28 minutes gets the "yawn" while Kobe's 42 with a near triple double gets praise....but the fact that it took THREE overtimes in which he couldn't close out a mediocre Phoenix team...a team they blew a 21 point lead against, gets ignored.

LeBron was definitely the MVP last year. Compare his numbers to KD:

          LeBron - 29.7, 7.3, 8.6
          KD - 30.2, 7.6, 2.8

So the points and rebounds are damn near identical, LeBron blows him out in the assists department, and LeBron's team had the best record in the NBA, while KD's team was the 8 seed. On what basis should KD have won the MVP?

And then he gets heralded for "closing the game" only AFTER Grant Hill gets his sixth foul on a dubious-at-BEST call. He was 1-7 in OTs before that point.

                Anyways. Back on topic.

Stan Van Gundy says the MVP race is over.

                http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=6252051

NEW YORK -- Stan Van Gundy believes the MVP race is already over, and Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls is going to win it.
"I don't think it's wide open. The media seems to have made their decision, and they're the ones that vote. So I think it's over," Van Gundy said Wednesday night as his Orlando Magic prepared to play the New York Knicks. "I mean, I just listen and read. I think it's over. Derrick Rose has it. I haven't really read or heard a media guy who is going another way at this point. I'd be shocked if he doesn't win it."

It's not like I or Po or Mack brought him out of the blue. And it's not "hate", lol.

Bringing up what an "analyst" (Bayless is hardly one) is saying regarding the MVP race in a thread about the MVP is hardly off topic.

As for Van Gundy. I agree. I think it's pretty much locked up.

I can't see why people keep bring his (and dwight's) name. If you told me that LeBron would be averaging the same numbers he got in Cleveland. I don't think I would of believed you. But both Dwight and LeBron are swappable (if thats even a word) at the 2 & 3 positions. I like Derrick Rose because he has improved as a player and his team has improved big time as a result. They are holding the number seed in the East at the moment.

Also got to give some love to Kobe. He would probably be my number 4 guy on that list. 13-1 since the All Star. If I had to pick a number 5 guy it would probably be Kevin Durant.

Oh well... I think this is locked up anyway. Rose is your new MVP.

I really don't care who wins MVP, it's a Regular Season Award That does Nothing For you, Lebron won it two years in a row and still couldn't win it all, in the Regular Season you play against sorry teams alot more so it's easier to look good, when you can dominate in the Playoffs against the Best teams in the League, then we see whos actually better, I'd rather have a Finals MVP than a Regular Season Award...

that doesn't really have to do with this debate and brings nothing useful to the table.

I think Rose and Thibodeau should get their respective awards, mainly because they exceeded everyones expectations. I remember people questioning if Rose was serious or not when

“It’s high,” Rose said of self-confidence. “The way I look at it within myself, why not? Why can’t I be the MVP of the league,” he asked. “Why can’t I be the best player in the league? I don’t see why [not]. Why can’t I do that?
this came out at the start of the season, and look at him now.

I know he won't get it. But I have to say it's pretty impressive that Dwight has Orlando in the top 5 in defense. He's literally their only defender who is even average. Impressive.
