Since when do 4-seeds win MVPs? Kevin Durant was everyone's preseason MVP pick...it was his award to lose as the season began, and he lost it. Dwight is STILL being talked about as a runaway MVP if his team had a better record, and LeBron was considered MVP by most until Chicago passed them up, DESPITE having Wade as a teammate. How is that being overshadowed?

Kobe is climbing especially if they take over the 1 overall seed.

Shouldn't win it, even with a 1 seed. It was the return of Bynum (and him actually staying healthy) that had the biggest impact on the Lakers pulling everything together post-AS break.

And of course it helps that the Spurs finally got hit by the injury bug.

That don't matter the criteria as of late has been the best player on the best team and that would be Kobe. Dont get it twisted Kobe makes the Lakers a championship team not Bynum and that has been proven. Even with a healthy Bynum it doesn't diminish the fact Kobe has been playing at a MVP level this year and the last five if you were keeping count.

I would love for it to be Rose, but if the Lakers catch the Spurs, then it's Kobe.

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?

Just a random thought about the MVP award...I know a lot of analysts feel it's a crime that Kobe only has one in his career. Honestly, what other year should he have won it? Even the year when everyone says Nash took his award and Kobe averaged 35ppg, his team was the SEVENTH seed! I can see why San Antonio and Detroit didn't have any MVPs, but why doesn't anyone talk about LeBron or Wade getting robbed? Phoenix was the 2nd seed with 54 wins, Miami was the 2nd seed in the East with 52 wins, and Cleveland the 4 seed with 50 wins. LeBron averaged 31, 7 and 6.6, Wade averaged 27, 5.7, and 6.7 (they also went on to win the championship) and Nash averaged 18.8 and 10.5 assists.

That brings me to this year. Rose is having his best season, and has the Bulls in the top seed in the East when no one expected more than a 3 seed from them. 25 and 8 is exceptional numbers for a PG. Wade and LeBron are having great seasons (better than Kobe) and their record isn't too shabby. However, them being on the same team cancels each other out, plus they are actually behind the Bulls when their expectations were astronomical. Howard is having a great season, but Orlando is 8 games behind the Bulls. Kobe Bryant is having a good, but not typical Kobe season. Lakers are fighting for that number 1 seed, but just from watching games, this Lakers surge is not due to Kobe elevating his game, but Bynum. I just can't justify giving Kobe the award when he's having a worse season than his prior years. Yeah, I know Jordan didn't have the same numbers at 35 that he did in his 20s, but Jordan at 35 was still averaging like 29, 6 and 4 compared to Kobe at 32 putting up 25, 5 and 5.

Edit: Even more alarming about that 2005-2006 season is that Wade finished SIXTH in the voting!

I agree with you Po Pimp

Just one thing, once the dust settled and you took a look at Miami's roster up and down, you would take a step back from declaring they would go 82-0.

Then when Haslem and Mike Miller went down, you knew it would be a struggle for them. They have no depth at all.

But in the end, if Chicago ends up with #1, I have to say nobody deserves it other than Rose.

If Miami ends up at #1, it will make things very interesting.

Yeah, You and I knew that Miami wasn't winning 73 games, but the analysts who get paid to be experts thought they had a shot. I did think they would probably get the best record just off the strength of LeBron taking Cleveland to back to back 60+ win seasons with no one of the caliber of Wade on his roster. I thought the Bulls would be the 2 or 3 seed fighting with Orlando, with Boston falling off.

I think a more interesting race is who makes All NBA First Team between Kobe and Wade. Wade is clearly having a better season, but Kobe's team has a slightly better record.

I agree somewhat but I dont like the fact that the MVP has become a team award, I mean Howard is doing everything he can possibly do help his offensively and defensively without him the Magic are Cleveland same as the Lakers that year Kobe averaged 35.

I look at players value not what they mean to their respective teams but overall value of player first then I start looking at their numbers. I dont think you can properly judge a players value based on stats or team record alone.

To an extent they are. The year Kobe won it over Chris Paul, true enough, you couldn't go wrong with Kobe, but Chris Paul had a more historical season with less talent and expectations. Kobe ended up winning MVP because his team finished ONE game above the Hornets.

In Howard's case, yes he's having a great year, but so is Rose. Yes, Rose's team is exceeding expectations, but the reason why Howard shouldn't really be considered is because his team is EIGHT games from being the top seed sitting in fourth place.

The reason he shouldn't be considered is because his own team is scared to go to him when the game matters most.

Bottom line: if the Bulls and Magic had the same record, Dwight is the runaway MVP. Comparing them head to head does not strengthen Rose's case. Comparing them defensively does not strengthen his case. Bringing up Dwight against the Knicks is BS because on that same night, the Bulls lost and Rose had 10 turnovers.

Rose deserves it because he has elevated the Bulls to the top of the league, but individually Dwight is the MVP for his team on both sides of the ball and on the glass by a long shot. Just looking at his defense and rebounding, he'd be in the discussion if he was the 2nd or 3rd scorer on his team. Orlando just doesn't have the record to give it to him according to the current standard.
                            I agree and good post.

I can't see why they wouldn't go to him. If they pass him to the ball, and the other team fouls him, he can step to the line and hit two easy.....oh wait
