That's fine with me and how it should be. You're going to honor a guy over the true best player because of who his teammates are? Makes little sense and is silly. If you're going to honor an individual player who stands out above the rest, give it to the best player in the league.

Rose, for all the great things he's done is not even the best PG in the league.

Just change it to Player of the Year, how it should have been from the start.

Because he's more valuable to his team than the guy that has other stars to defer to.

Edit: This isn't my opinion, just the reasoning behind how a player can be more valuable than the best player in the league.

Easily. If you can't see the distinction between best and most valuable, then I don't know what to say.

Valuable entails everything. How good a player is, how "valuable" they are in terms of where they've gotten to the standings, how he makes the team better, etc.

          Best is just that....best.

I wouldn't be opposed to what the NFL does. They have an OPOY and an MVP.

So basically just make a LeBron James award? I mean seriously here ex....we're really even entertaining the thought that there shouldn't be an MVP award or the award should just automatically go to the best player in the league? So LeBron should just get an award every year of his career just cause? Then Kevin Durant can get it every year for a few years. Durant or Kobe can come in and statistically kill it during a single season and the arguments will still be that LeBron is the best player in the league, by your logic he should be winning the award cause he's the best player in the league. That just doesn't sit right with me.

Then LeBron should win the award for at least the next 6 years, regardless.

Sounds kind of crazy to me because throughout the history of MVP awards the best player didn't always win it. If that was the case, Jordan should have won it for 9 straight years and Kobe should have more than 1 MVP.

If LeBron is the best player then yes, give it to him for however many years.

It didn't sit right with me that MJ didn't win more and that Nash won twice in a row etc. etc.

IMO there's no point in honoring someone because of who their teammates are which is basically what you guys are saying.

At least in Jordan's case, those years in the 90s when they gave it to someone else (ie Barkley and Malone), he set the record straight in the NBA finals every time. There's no one in their right mind who could look at the 93 or 97 NBA finals and say that Barkley and Malone were more valuable than Jordan.

At times sportswriters are too fast and loose with trying to create a story out of boredom.

This year? It's debatable, but overall Paul is still the best and the PG I'd take first out of anyone of them. Depends on what you want more out of your PG really.

I wouldn't be mad if someone were to say "this year, Rose has been playing the 'best' out of all PG's". But I wouldn't say that's a definite.

It's a good arguement and you can either way, like if you want your PG to be agressive and score then you go with Rose, etc.

However the only thing Rose has CP3 beat in stats wise is PPG.

Considering Rose just left a trail of tears in going up against Paul and Williams in back to back games, it's becoming increasingly difficult to argue against Rose.

And this post is exactly what the problem with what you're saying is. Derrick Rose is undoubtley playing the best ball among PGs this year. Is he the best point guard in the league this year and going into next year? No, that would still be Chris Paul or Deron Williams (take your pick). See what I'm getting at here? In any given year a player can be playing better ball than the best player in the league, however he's screwed from being MVP because he's not the consensus best player in the league every year? Guys like Derrick Rose or KD or Dwight should not have they're contributions flushed down the toliet cause they just happen to play in the league with LeBron James or Kobe or whoever everyone is calling the best in the league at the time. The guys teammates matter because it's Most Valuable Player to his team's success. What happens if a player is the best player in the league (as many felt Kobe was at a point) and his team doesn't make the playoffs? Now because the criteria for MVP (or the Best Player Award cause you want to eliminate the MVP) is being the best player in the league, the guy playing for the nine, tenth ranked team in his conference gets an award and those other guys just get to be happy they're a one or two or three seed.

I'm with Matrix, just make an Offensive Player of the Year award and an MVP.
