LOL...I love how everyone has an opinion, but doesn't know what went on in that locker room.

Illini bias aside, I find it hilarious how Deron Williams went from a "good smart kid who liked playing under Sloan and sought out tutelage from John Stockton to be a better PG" to "spoiled rich diva athlete" in a matter of a day.

Maybe off topic but what exactly is a player's place? They are the product.

When I pay to see a Jazz game it sure isn't to watch the coaches.

But like PoPimp said we have absolutely no clue what happened. Probably was a divide between the two but let's not act like Sloan doesn't have an ego either.

Re: Report: Jerry Sloan to resign

Williams did an interview with 1320 KFAN radio in Salt Lake City, here's part of what he had to say:

“I would never force coach Sloan out of Utah. He’s meant more this town, this organization than I have by far. Not my place. If that was the case I would just say I wanted out.”

I believe him on this, that he never went to the organization directly. That, of course, is something else entirely from the leaders of the organization seeing the clashes Williams and Sloan did have and that leading to fear about losing Williams to free agency in the summer of 2012. That can lead to the organization putting pressure on Sloan independent of Williams asking, leading to Sloan deciding he didn’t want to fight another battle and walking away.

Williams acknowledged the two had their fights. He added people not in the locker room or around the team have overhyped the disagreement between he and Sloan from Wednesday. Both men wanted to win, both were stubborn and that led to some clashes.

“We just had a disagreement. We’ve had worse, I’ve seen him have worse with other players. Jerry is very fiery, I guess that is the word, and I am too. So we just clash on things.”

He said their relationship has always been that way.

“I wouldn’t say we’ve had a rocky relationship, but we’ve had our disagreements over the years. Probably no more than any other coach or player have arguments. We’re both competitive we’re both very stubborn and I think that’s where we clash.”

He added that this season has been like pretty much every other in terms of their disagreements.

          WOW

I remember Sloan when i was a KID

he's been around forever it seems

but change can usually be good or be good eventually

i hear JohnStockton is interim, WOW, should be very interesting

Its not like the JAZZ are a bad team, they have major potential to do damage in the playoffs and very capable of an upset or two

I always like Sloan and hate to see him go. I think he was just tired and saw the team playing poorly and decided he did not have the fire no more to sustain it thru the long haul of a season, and felt it was in the best interst of the team for him to step down. I'm sure he feels the team is in good hands with Corbin or else he would have stayed thru seasons end.

Spoiled athletes always get their way

always the coaches fault, not players taking responsibility

Might as well not even have coaches then, if that's the case. Just drop the coaches, change the name of the league to "National Streetball Association" and call it a day. Sure, people tune in to watch the players, but it's still organized ball and there's a hierarchy.

Hindsight being 20/20 now... was he really the latter though? Was he really the "good smart kid who liked playing under Sloan and sought out tutelage"?

I wasn't aware that Jerry Sloan had won so many championships that he was now in the position to be above criticism.

Meh, I don't know, the NBA is changing too much. It's quickly coming down to 10 talented dudes with astronomical salaries bouncing a basketball and shooting it through a hoop, without there being any soul to it all.

Now players want to control every aspect of the game themselves as if every game was a pick-up game at the Y, and that's making the sport far too sterile for me. I'm completely fine with people who watch the NBA for the talent level involved, but I'm not too interested in watching pick-up ball on TV. Even during the Jordan days, Phil Jackson played a big role.

Probably not going to read that Woj article, always full of hyperbole and probably took another shot at the Olympic players he hates.

My opinion? Sloan always had the rep of being a tough, headstrong coach. He clashed with almost all his players (Stockton mentioned that yesterday), so reports of Deron being the one to force him out are probably exaggerated. Deron/other nameless Jazz players also played a part in it, just not as much as it was stated, especially if you listen to Deron's interview.

Facts are, the Jazz have lost a ton of decent/good players, they weren't contending and won't be for years. Sloan got tired and decided to quit. How much of it is because of Deron we won't know, but it's not all his fault.

Everyone starts with the inmates-run-the-asylum hysteria now, but the players aren’t prisoners, the coaches aren’t wardens and the relationships between Sloan and his stars have always been complex. Sloan never changed, but the times did. Players are different now. Maybe he isn’t, but coaches and general managers are different too. Values have changed. Blame the players all you want, but there’s as much petulance and selfishness in the coaching profession as there is in the players.
Bolded says it all. All the rest is contradictory to itself and is otherwise fodder.
