Re: The worst pick up players.

    Woah. I like this thread.

How about The, I play with little kids on a regular basis so I think I'll be as good against actual grown men and when I'm not I'll cry like a little girl, guy.

    orrr..

The, Miss one shot say "GOD I SUCK" and run away crying guy.

    orrr..

Look at me, I play (or played) Varsity Basketball! I'm Now Michael Jordan and you should all polish my shoes before I dunk on you all.

    and speaking of dunking..

The, I can BARELY dunk SOMETIMES in WARMUPS. Which means I'm a boss, gimme the ball dogg, guy.

    and my personal favorite.

The classic, I am terrible at the game of basketball, Everyone knows it but me, but I play anyway because I think I'm good, Kinda guy.

Re: The worst pick up players.

I don't know. On some days I think I'm terrible. Other days I think I'm a boss. It all depends on whether I'm surrounded by good players or not. If I'm stuck with the "ballhog who makes all of his shots" guy then yeah...my self-confidence is going straight down the tubes. Especially with the fact I'm horrible (though I try....futiley) on defense...yeah...my game is entirely dependent on my self-confidence (IE Offense/Shooting).

Playing with good players (especially those that don't pass it) would make your own play go down the tubes because one usually ends up out of the rythm of the game. Cue terrible play.

Could use that hand and put it in their face... it's even closer to the mind and probably more effective.

I do that on a close out, when I am not able to contest the shot. Also easier to leak out after the rebound is snagged.

Don't really see it. Hand up or down, you can leak out either way. If you're close enough to poke a stomach then you're close enough to put a hand in the face. Hand in the face is 100 times more distracting.

Just played a couple 5 on 5 games at the gym today here at Cuse. 9 college students and one dude that was probably in his late 50's. Me and him ran a pick and roll every single possession and the two of us single handedly beat the other team lol; I felt like Steve Nash out there.

I would disagree. Because your next jump shot, you are clinching your stomach. Very effective. I jump sometimes for a close out, and other times when I am too far to jump I just go in for the little jab.

Things I hate (and some have been noted already):

The buff guy who does not wear a shirt.
The fat guy who does not wear a shirt.
The sweaty guy in the post.
The guy who says "WOO" after he does a move.
The guy who says Kobe after a jumper.
The guy who wants to argue every call.
" " wants to play point guard but should be on the block since he is 6'4.
" " is too tired to play D but once he has the ball he has all the energy.
" " tries reverse/360/double clutch layups all the time.
" " tries to stack the teams, to hide his lack of skill.

                          Couldn't agree more with that.

Along those same lines - I hate the guy who tries to compare every player to an NBA player. Oh, you're white and like to pass the ball? STEVE NASH. You shoot threes? RAY ALLEN
I would say I hope you guys know someone like the guy I'm talking about, but..I kind of hope you don't because no one should have to play a game with this guy. gets old.

Also, anyone ever played with "Marv Albert"? The guy who kind of half way commentates the game as he's playing in it. "oh, my man (insert name here) with the ball. things about to get crazy...here's the threeeeeee!"

When a defender touches my stomach on a jumpshot, I stock my leg out on the next one. They stop pretty quickly.

Objection. My ballhandling, slashing, and shooting abilities far surpass any semblance of a post game I may have, even standing at 6'3''-6'4''. I think we may have covered this in the thread already but I'm not sure. Every once in a blue moon, I'll get a stranger who'll say something like, "Just get in the post and get to work" and I have to be like, "I don't think you understand, guy." It usually becomes clear where I belong.

And maybe this is on me for never truly developing an ultra reliable post game, but as someone who is similar in stature to guys like Russell Westbrook, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that we all must post up. 6'3'' or 6'4'' is more likely to be a guard position than a pivot.

With all that said, I'll take a leap of faith and presume you're referring to 6'4'' guys who have no guard skills, are only effective in the post, and still insist upon hovering around the perimeter. I can feel you on that.
