Re: The worst pick up players.

The thing that angers me the most, is having the guy on your team that is terrible but thinks he is a beast.

You know, the guy who only dribbles with his right hand and head to the floor. The guy who runs around and throws up ridiculous floaters and jump shots from places where he shouldn't even dream of shooting from. The guy who thinks he is a point guard but gets ripped 75% of the time down the floor.

I can't stand people like that. I consider myself a pretty good player. Started all 4 years in HS and played a year of college ball before quitting to focus on baseball.

Well, needless to say, I had one of these players on my team the other day. Usually when we make teams, those people get weened out, but someone I got stuck with him on my team. At one point I literally walked up to him at the top of the key and made him give me the ball.

I don't mind players with less ability, but know you're role. Don't be Brian Scalabrine trying to play like Derrick Rose.

Re: The worst pick up players.

I don't mind if girls play and they want to run point or something like that.

That's the one position they can play with success. They get some open looks, can just try to stay in front of their man, and make some good passes.

When those 5-10 150lb females try and play a post position and set picks? Now that's when they need to go somewhere else. They can't jump, are weak, and are slow.

I haven't run across a solid female "big".

I know a few women that would challenge your theory on their skills in the post, but generally speaking, it is just a bit uncomfortable with so much contact and positions where you usually want to try to overpower someone.

I don't mind women playing on the wing though. I've known quite a few that can shoot the lights out. They aren't beating too many people off the dribble but still play decent wing defense and knock down any open shot they get (which is usually quite a few since their defender tends to leave them to help bc they never get any respect).

            I love playing with women....

But I agree if a women can shoot. It is an awesome teammate for me. Because I get double teamed so much down low. A simple kickout and BANG.

You know what I don't like. The double standard people have for big men in a pick up game. I'm usually the biggest on the court. So I'm down low posting up most of the time. I'm not hack. I usually call other guys fouls even if they don't call. What happens usually in my games. Is that I dominate down low for while. I can usually score in bunch. But then I start getting smacked in the face and all kind of BS. Most of these fouls from little guys who get boxed out or get posted up. I'm talking LOUD smacks across my arms. I get pushed over the edge once someone says "Your a big men you should expect to be fouled like that" smh

              /rant

How about the chuck who is scoring all the points. And once he finally makes a pass and you miss. And he gets on you because you missed. Come on now... after 15 points over double-triple teams. You expect me to be into the game.
This exactly..I HATE THAT !!! Then when you miss ONE shot that you may get every six pick up games, the other players on your team assume that you suck .

I also hate the people that think that just because I didn't score a lot of points that I didnt contribute to the team. Everyone on the court cannot be a scorer, especially when 1 or 2 people hog the ball. There are other ways to contribute, like steals or rebounding , but if I don't score I will hear other people on the sidelines say ,"well that big dude didnt do ****"...UGH

I don't know if someone has mentioned this but for me, every once in awhile, there's always that one dude that has to give you a good a** slap in the middle of the game. I mean it seriously comes out of no where and its always the weird guy. I know this is what happens in sports but c'mon man, I literally just met you 6 min ago, a high 5 is perfectly fine.

I mean I feel kinda like CP3 right here, even though he's known Ariza for a while.

Exactly!!! But I will say, I love that people who stay with me. They try to working with you during the game. I miss the first jumper. And instead of a "damn" or "you should of taken that in". "Keep shooting big men"... I've had some crazy games with teammates like that.

Not a worst, but I was playing with this guy who was LIGHTS OUT. He was the fastest person I've ever played with and he never seemed to miss. Anyway, he didn't show up one of the days we play and I asked why and people said that he was going to spain to try out for a pro team there. I heard that he's pretty much a lock to make it also.

Played against a hypothetical dunker two nights ago who became upset with his teammate for throwing a back door bounce pass instead of a back door lob. "I was about to yam dat" I believe was his reasoning, because he said that's what he does "on the east side" (where rims must be about 14 inches shorter than normal).

I played a new guy the other day and all he did on defense was to practically hug the guy and hook the arms so no one can get by him. He was talking smack the entire time too. On the other side of the ball, I decide to do exactly what he is doing and this dude starts throwing around elbows and words that should not be said. I absolutely love playing guys who thinks it's fair to play a certain way as long as he's not on the receiving end.

Best payback is to drive right through them on offense and pick their pocket on the other end. Those guys usually don't last long.

There is this guy who play with us who is a coach on the floor along with a very overconfident player.

First he coaches people and has the try to run offense's and he is always talking which is annoying.

Second, after he misses three or four shots in a row, he'll say "F*CK IT, I'M GOING LIGHTS OUT REST OF THE GAME!" And people will be like "OK...." and then he'll pull up from three feet behind the arc and brick one

Haha, hard to argue with that strategy. Struggling from the field? Why don't we just take six or seven steps backward, "into my range".

And here's the good news in my regard about the "coach" guy. We had one show up intermittently down at my park earlier this year. He'd make executive decisions on controversial calls. Things like "he can block it on it's way down or once it goes off the backboard as long as it's not above the cylinder."

But, to my secret satisfaction, when he says something like that, people tend to look at me - even if I'm not playing, and say "Is that true?", to which I then make the ultimate call. It pays to have built a support system in my city as a player and an actual coach.
