Re: Carlisle: Nowitzki is "Top 10 Player in NBA History"

I think he will not only have to win an NBA championship, but multiple championships to be mentioned in the top ten. So much also has do with the luck of being on the "right team". Just think if Dirk was a Celtic instead of a Mav. His popularity would sky-rocket simply with the comparisons to Larry Bird he would get. Conversely, I think Dirk would be significantly less-popular if he were a Sacramento King or Bobcat. Just my thought.

I think Dirk has a long way to be a top 10 player in NBA history. I can barely fit him in the top 5 players in today's NBA.

I definitely think he is in the conversation for one of the top 5 Euro-players who are 7-feet tall that can shoot 3's and that are named Dirk!

Nothing wrong with this statement and he qualified it nicely.
Still don't agree with that really, but that's a much more understandable/reasonable statement than what it was painted as in the original post.

Not top ten but I put him top 20. He's been doing it consistently for so long with different types of teams its insane.

He's also a special player, 7 footer than can handle the ball and ONE of the BEST 3 point shooters out there, a 7 footer. One of the most unstoppable shots ever.
I would put Dirks 15 foot fade away behind Kareem's Sky Hook.

Agreed 100%. Between Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Dwight, Rose, Durant and others he definitely isn't top 5 even today.

Dirk is third on my list in terms of today's players. Kobe and LeBron being ahead of him. I don't even know if Kobe's ahead of him anymore, given what happened in the playoffs this year. I see some still have no idea just now dangerous and special he really is.

Oh Dirk's an absolute stud for sure. We just have an era right now with a bunch of all time greats. As for Kobe being ahead of Dirk, Dirk definitely played better than him in that series to be sure, but I suspect Kobe was more injured than people knew and I believe with a full offseason to get healthy and stronger that Kobe will have a great season next year.

Kobe's been injured for 5 years now, and he was the best player in the world for 4 of those years.

                Not an excuse. Nope.

The cumulative effect of those injuries as well as the 3 consecutive long runs in the playoffs took it's toll this season. We'll see if a longer offseason can help him.

good one, i knew i was forgetting some guys.

nash very good pg over the years. i like him alot . below avg defnse hurts him. probably top 30 or so, for me.

after top 20 or so, it gets really difficult , imo to rank. could argue several guys

a fine line for some of these guys who never win/won a ring.

wouldnt mind seeing dirk or nash win one.

Re: Carlisle: Nowitzki is "Top 10 Player in NBA History"

The following players are/were too flawed to be top 50 players.

Charles Barkley- He was incredibly selfish and lazy. Poisoned lockerooms.
David Robinson- He was soft, his offense was overrated, and he didn't truly love the game.
Kevin Garnett- Classic frontrunner and he hasn't a clue in the clutch.
Elgin Baylor- Was awful defensively and the Lakers won immediately after they made him retire.
Gary Payton- Defensively, he just gambled for steals. His 'leadership' was a joke.
Robert Parish- This guy was a choke artist. Bird and McHale were the real stars.
Patrick Ewing- A jump-shooting center who couldn't hit when a big game was on the line.
George Gervin- His defense and passing were so bad that it almost canceled out his scoring.
Reggie Miller- Defense was pitiful and his clutch rep was a bit overblown.
Moses Malone- Selfish. He always had to take the most shots and he competed way harder on the offensive boards than he did on the defensive glass.
Pete Maravich- Shot way too much and would only make flashy passes.
Elvin Hayes- Basketball IQ was so low. He never did anything in the clutch.
Dominique Wilkins- He was just a scorer on average teams. Ballhandling and defense were awful.
Allen Iverson- His style of play turned all of his teammates into spectators.
Bob McAdoo- Was just a soft, jump-shooting big man.
Bernard King- His defense was as bad as his offense was great.

Who the hell is Roger Parish?

.....bamalam, I'd put Wade 4th-6th, mixed up with Howard and Durant.
