OK, I'm being a bit dramatic but you wonder how many fans will come back after all of this. The hardcore rooters will be there, but the casuals? Not so sure.
I dont get this. Casual fans arent even paying attention to the league right now. They usually start around March/April after March Madness. Thats why they are called casual fans. If the Heat/Lakers are playing in the 2013 Finals, they will be right there watching with the hardcores.

Still think that MLB doesnt carry the star power that the NBA does. Bitterness about a missed season is only with the hardcores not the casuals.

Hockey BARELY survived the lockout. They were stuck on a channel that no one in the US watched and thankfully they had several great finals.

Basketball better be prepared for half empty arenas and bad TV ratings for at least 3 years.

It took baseball forever to get the casual fan back, does Hockey even matter to most people that don't live in the North?

Probably. People usually have short memories when it comes to this stuff. I just think it may be somewhat different this time because of the economy. Has a sport ever had a work stoppage like this when things were so rough in the United States? It could be a PR nightmare.

I'm guessing the nba will be better with all the changes the owners want for competitive balance. So the fans.will be back.

i know i'm going against the grain but I'm happy the players stood up what THEYthought was right.

I dont know if they will accomplish anything with this or force Stern to produce a better offer in the next day or so but they stuck with what they wanted

The NHL also changed some rules to make the game appeal to more fans and increase scoring.

What leverage do the players have, though? They're missing paychecks. The owners have been preparing for this for years and don't feel the loss of income nearly as much as the players do. What can they do? Threaten to start another league? When has that ever worked?

They don't have to wait 45 days what they did different then straight decertify was allow the court proceedings to move faster with a Disclaimer Of Interest .... Small chance season still be saved tho, but Not feeling it as of right now. And since its going to courts there is no one to negotiate with .
