I agree. I think the league is too short sighted to see the long term finanical benefit to reducing the season. If they would cut games and make the regular season as must see as the playoffs the revenue they would make having those extra games would pale in comparison to what they could make in shorten season.

But like aholbert pointed out all they can see is the carrot in front of their faces and end up walking past an entire field of carrots.

I don't see the benefit at all as a fan. A shorter season guarantees I don't see every team. A shorter season means I pay more or the same for less games (players and owners have to make that revenue up somewhere) Just because there are 30 home games instead of 42 doesn't guarantee sellouts or even more ticket sales for some teams. It just guarantees less revenue.

Nor do I. Not only that, but the players are more interested in playing as many games as possible, to ensure that they don't miss the money thats in front of them.

While I don't agree with games being reduced, I HIGHLY doubt youd hear a player complain about a reduced season....extra check or not.....82 games is a lot wear and tear.

Are you serious? Lets say the season was cut to 60 games. That basically eliminates a month and a half worth of games. First, the owners would ask for (and would be justified in receiving) salary rollbacks equal to the number of games being played. That would mean each player would lose more than 20% of their salary. A player making 5 mil would now make less than 4. You really think players wouldnt care about losing 20% of their salary.

I agree with this. And that's just considering mid level guys, the top tier of contracts would be losing even more if the season was cut further. As a fan its a nice thought that guys would be healthier on a shorter season, but realistically they don't want to be missing millions. Just like I wouldn't want to miss 20% of my salary.

Don't know if this was mentioned earlier:

One new wrinkle in the CBA that does hurt the Nets --and a league executive says few things do-- is a new restriction on the use of cash in trades. In the past, teams could send up to $3 million in cash considerations per deal. It was a great sweetener. Now, teams have a season long limit of $3 million...and also new, teams can receive no more than $3 million in a year.

ThRONe, I like you, you're a pretty cool dude. That being said, please don't start this crap again man. It's not being short sighted, it's not a carrot dangling in front of them. There is simply no way in hell that the NBA will generate more revenue with a 66-60 something game season instead of the normal 82. The reasons have already been mentioned here. Just let that **** die man, cause it's not a good idea for anybody involved except maybe Timberwolves fans who don't have to watch 82 examples of bad franchise management a year this way.

I saw that the CBA is a 10-year deal with an mutual option at the 6th year. Stupid question: Does this opt-out have to be agreed by both sides or does only one party have the ability to opt-out?
