Caron Butler has strong interest in Bulls

Caron Butler has been working out in Chicago this offseason and is fully rehabilitated from surgery on his right knee.

As the NBA free-agency period begins the test-the-waters mode, Butler's interest in the Bulls is legitimate, according to league sources. One source close to Butler said that Butler said early Thursday morning, "I hope I don't have to leave."

I don't know if he would under the new CBA. I could definitely see him taking it under the old one. Kinda sucks that it was lowered.

Yeah, it's definitely hurting the Bulls chances of getting a legitimate 2 guard for cheap. But at least their is a MLE type of thing left in the new CBA, or else they wouldn't have this possibility at all.

Why shouldn't a person get to have some say so in where they will work if they have some leverage? I'll go out on a limb and say that most working adults would be fairly irritated if they didn't have some influence over where they earn money.

I don't particularly have a problem with players requesting/asking to go to particular teams, so long as they're in the final year of their deal.

Why would Paul accept a trade somewhere to a team he know he isn't going to stay with/sign an extension with. If it's a forgone conclusion in his mind that he's going to be a Knick when he becomes a free agent, might as well help NO's out and get something out of it.

Also, outside of CP3 becoming a Knick, we also have other imminent news:

Jarrod Rudolph: I'll be clear. I'm being told that Deron Williams is very interested in playing w/ Dwight Howard in Orlando or Brooklyn; 12 is his guy. 2 minutes ago

I mean, who didn't see all of this coming though. Deron/Dwight isn't as bad as Miami or NY though.

I can understand the sentiment, and it's an easy and popular one to have considering what media outlets push and such, but

                  A) Why whouldn't a player have a say in where he is traded (or isn't traded for that matter)? Should owners/GM's be the only people having any say as to where a player goes?

                  B) Same six teams good every year? The Mavs just won the title for the first time in franchise history, the Heat have become relevant again after falling into obscurity (thanks for taking that spot Cavs), OKC has come up out of nowhere (small market team, home grown talent), the Grizz played some great basketball and created a ton of intrigue, the Bulls are back on. The Lakers, Celtics, and Spurs are always in the mix. The Clippers have a ton of talent and a center piece in Blake Griffin (and Eric Gordon isn't a bad Robin to Blake's Batman). In my opinion, if the Eastern Conference was as competitive as the Western Conference, this conversation wouldn't even exist. The East really exaggerates the issue at hand, but I expect a few teams to continue to improve (the Pacers played a tough series with the Bulls and will grow from it as well as their players, the Sixers have some good pieces that need fine tuning/swapping, Washington is only going to get better with another year of Wall and some promising prospects in Nick Young and their draft picks, Bogut will likely play better along with Jennings and Stephen Jackson with the Bucks). For as big of a conversation there is about it, the leagues competitive right now if you ask me....

                  C) Yeah, it's upsetting, but CP3 deserves to be out contending somewhere as opposed to washing away his amazing talents with New Orleans. They simply haven't built around him well enough and he deserves to have the chance to be on an elite team. He's been one of the, if not THE best, point guards in the league for years. I certainly hope he doesn't dry out like Nash has in Phoenix, where there's a ton of momentum for the "trade Nash so he can contend" bus. What's any different than this? If Nash said he wanted to be traded ""_______" I highly doubt anyone would call foul play on him.

I don't mean this as disrespect, but I think you should really give the NBA a chance if -this- is what turns you off about it. The league is in great shape as far as I'm concerned, and hopefully it only continues to get better.

Might be my homerism, but honestly the Dwight to the Nets deal makes sense...they'd be getting a young center, though with a different skill set, picks and the Nets have the cap space and seem to be willing to take on contracts with the space under the cap. The only other team seeming to be in play is LA but they have to wheel and deal to make it happen cap wise for them.

The problem is my man Otis.

But for the love of everything holy I want that deal done if not to just rub it in the Knicks face and the whole CP3 saga about to unfold.

seems like the Bulls are showing interest in Nick Young..who I think would be a good fit with them..but I think Nick Young wants to break banks

                          Re Chris Paul

VERY tough situation for the NBA as they own the franchise at the moment and Paul to the Knicks will look "very" bad.

                          However.............they may have no choice.

If he insists he's leaving at the end of the season and will join the Knicks...you will have a New Orleans team without Chris Paul, but still with bad contracts like Okafor.

Thus = much harder to sell the franchise.

If they send him to NY now and insist on the Knicks taking Okafor etc...then in 12 months time you'll have no Paul and way less bad contracts.

I.e. either way Chris Paul leaves, but at least you get "something" (Landry Fields?) and clear bad contracts (Okafor) + tank this season and get a nice pick (top 5?).

It actually makes sense IF Chris Paul insists he's going to go to NY at the end of the season anyway and won't sign an extension with any team except NY. IF he forces their hand, that's the best they can do.
