To me no, they should have never traded LO. I know he was upset and wanted to go after finding out he was in that initial CP3 trade offer but oh well. He would have gotten over it, he is moody like that. Who do the Lakers have now to make up for the loss of LO?

They obviously had bigger plans and I'm sure trading LO was part of that but I don't see Dwight coming here anytime in the immediate future. Will Dwight end up being a Laker? possibly but not positively. Is he here now? No

So how again are the Lakers better off now from trading LO to the Mavs?

there is no defense for trading lamar odom to the mavericks unless it lands them some type of gift of a trade. anything less than that will not suffice.

wait, is that an inaccurate assessment?

so far, it's competing with...um...nick van exel and shaq, derek fisher and shaq, smush parker and kwame brown, and derek fisher and pau or bynum.

                  I love it:

Simmons said the Lakers will be in the lottery.
Stephen A Smith says Kobe will be asking for a trade by mid year
Ric Bucher says we shouldve traded for Carmelo with Bynum.

This team needed motivation and thats what everyone's giving them.

they've gone from landing a two headed monster in Paul and Dwight to now just hoping to add guys like Josh McRoberts and Mo Williams

I didn't think they really needed anything accept an upgrade at PG....a guy like Delonte West would have been considered an upgrade for LA IMO he also played for Mike Brown. He can knock down shots and stay in front of quicker PG's which was their problem last year.

This entire situation turned into a mess for the Lakers and they had enough talent to get back to finals without making any major moves

I kind of agree with Bucher a little at first I thought Amare and Melo couldn't work but it want exactly horrible. As long as Kobe got his touches.

The lack of motivation from Mike Brown cancels this out, so they'll still have none.

Really thought I would ever never say this...but people are actually underestimating the Lakers.

And I get that because it's all about the "NOW" and we live in a "NOW" society...but when I see/hear things like the Lakers are done, the Clippers own LA, Kobe will be traded by midseason, the Clippers are a contender now....the only thing I can assume is that the world is getting ready to end real soon.

Just wait til they get Duhwight and then everybody will be right back on their bandwagon again.

More like Kobe'll be coaching the team by mid year after he stages a coup on Mike Brown.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

OKC is laying back, watching this all unfold and probably thinking to themselves "Man, I cannot believe we are so lucky as to being the only team with a legit starting SF!" Dallas is the closest team to having a legit SF, and they have Lamar Odom who will be splitting time at PF too.
