Sad/scary to say, but teams like the Knicks, Lakers they aren't going to get a ring this season without adding another guy.. and that guy could potentially be JR. You simply have to make the move if you can.
Teams like LAC [well, before Chauncey got hurt] I would not bother with JR because teams of that caliber are already true contenders, and you should not tinker with that chemistry.
The Knicks are playing with house money anyway with Lin's rise.Comment

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
If JR and Melo can slide into that Knicks team smoothly...big if...and basically add two great scorers / shooters....man, they are going to be seriously scary.
If Baron comes back healthy.........they are going to have serious depth.
If.............if..............big if...........everything comes together........I can't believe I am about to write this.......the Knicks could almost win the lot this season.
Lin Baron
JR Shump Fields
Melo Fields Shump
Amare Novak
Tyson Amare
That's a LOT of offense in Mike D's hands........and they have a better defender in Tyson than he ever had in Phoenix.
I can't believe I just wrote all that...............but that team looks extremely good on paper. You could conceivably have four guys on the court at one time (Lin or Baron + JR, Melo and Amare) who could all go off at any one time.
If Lin can keep moving the ball.....and Melo gets doubled.....teams are going to basically have to leave Amare open.
And Melo being back = oppositions best players (I.e. LeBron) are going to have to guard him / won't be able to be put on Lin like the Heat do with Rose. Melo is a legit double team.
They are going to have a lot of guys open. A lot.Comment

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
This is all based on the assumption that JR is going to hold it together and not be a cancer.
And even so, they still aren't going to win it all, or beat the elite teams in the East. They still play no defense and aren't efficient enough to be able to win with just scoring.Comment

The Knicks will officially add free agent reserve shooting guard J.R. Smith to Linsanity today, making the hottest team in the NBA a deep team as well. According to multiple sources, Smith, who played in China during the lockout and became eligible to sign an NBA deal on Wednesday, will be at the Garden tonight, but won’t make his debut until Sunday against the Mavericks. The Knicks are 8th in defensive efficiency. That doesn't happen playing No Defense.

Is D'antoni still a bad coach or does his system still not work or are those 2 things we heard all year on hold until after the season? Just wondering.#RespectTheCultureComment

We'll see now that he has somewhat of a competent PG running his system.Comment

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers suddenly have a major void in rebounds, points and energy. And, their hair doesn't look as good either.
Anderson Varejao will be missed.
Cleveland's animated and underrated center will need at least one month to recover from his broken wrist, an injury that will damage the Cavs' chances of making a playoff push and may prevent other teams from inquiring about the Brazilian big man before next month's trading deadline.
Varejao, one of the NBA's top rebounders, sustained a non-displaced fracture to his right wrist on Feb. 10 against Milwaukee. On Thursday, Cavs coach Byron Scott revealed Varejao will need a minimum of a month to recover and could be out six weeks.
Scott said surgery is not necessary "at this time."
The 6-foot-11 Varejao, who for the first few years of his career was known mostly for his long, frizzy hair, was playing at an All-Star level for the Cavs. He's averaging 10.8 points and 11.5 rebounds, including 4.4 per game on the offensive end.
"When you look at it, I don't know if four-to-six weeks is good news or not," Scott said. "I guess it could have been worse."
Although the Cavs have said they would not trade the 29-year-old Varejao, he was certain to draw interest for teams looking to add a piece for a title run. That now seems unlikely and the Cavs have to hope they don't fall too far back in the standings before he returns.
There's a chance if the Cavs are out of it that Varejao would be shut down for the remainder of the season.
"If he's healthy, Andy wants to play," Scott said. "It would be hard for me to keep him out of there if he's healthy."
Semih Erden started for Varejao on Wednesday and scored a career-high 18 points with a season-high eight rebounds in a win over Indiana.
This is the second straight season Varejao has sustained a significant injury. He played only 31 games in 2011 before tearing a foot ligament in practice.
Also, guard Daniel Gibson is doubtful for Friday's game against Miami with a sprained left ankle#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official POST-LOCKOUT Player Movement Thread (Trades, FAs, etc)
Everyone one (Knicks fans here) questioned what he was doing with Melo at Point Forward and Amare as a "Stretch 4".
That's not his system. He changed it in the summer because he had piss poor PGs on his team.
I think D'Antoni is still a bad coach in the sense that:
1. He only coaches one side of the ball
2. He has shown to be horrible at drawing up last second plays
3. He didn't utilize the strengths of Amare in the Pick & Roll (seems to be because of the PGs and/or trying to appease Melo)
4. He changed his system because of one player (Melo) instead of sticking to what he knew. Might have to give him a little credit here because his system did not work with the original group of players.
Do I like D'Antoni now all of a sudden? Hell freaking no!
Maybe some of these bandwagon Knick fans might.Comment
