This is a guy who's had to move SEVEN times in his 15 year career. That's an average of moving every 2 years to a different city. Plus, he was just a throw in so the Knicks could get Melo - who, ironically, was going back to HIS hometown. I'm pretty sure he's fed up of just being forced to move where he really doesn't (and didn't) want to go. I mean, he could've decided to hang it up when he heard he was going to New York and totally prevent the Melo deal from going down, but he stayed professional so Melo could have the opportunity to experience what Chauncey was experiencing.

Basically, I think we all forget these players are actually human beings. You know, they have FEELINGS. EMOTIONS.
Chauncey Billups will make over $14M this year alone.

What's with him and Lamar Odom and NBA players so emotional these days? These guys are freaking millionaires.

So what he has a family. It's not like some Joe Schmoe making peanuts having to relocate for a few months of the year, staying in the finest of hotels, flying in chartered planes, getting stipends, etc.

Who gives a crap about his emotions. He signed up for this.

You're missing the fact that this is as much a move for the future as it is for the present.

Nah, I have to agree with Playmaker. Gasol was a soft, borderline all-star in his days in Memphis. He was a solid face-up scorer, good post moves, above average rebounder and below average defender. His skillset, along with improving a bit on defense, rebounding and toughness, especially his high basketball I.Q. and great passing skills translated well to the triangle and Kobe's abilities.

It also didn't hurt that Gasol was playing with one of the best frontcourts in the NBA and Kobe in his prime. Gasol was also aided by the fact that two of the other top PFs (Duncan & Garnett) started declining. He is a Robert Parish-esque hall of famer based on his success internationally and the NBA, IMO.

Still maintain faith Mitch would never blow up a team that absolutely doesn't need to so that. Can't see them pulling a trigger like that. Otherwise I will also be furious.

How though? Paul is going into FA no matter what because it benefits him financially to do so. If the Lakers struggle and get a 5-6th seed and are eliminated in the first round...do you think Paul signs back with them? They need to keep some big man talent around to make them a true contender and guarantee that Paul stays with LA.

I don't agree with him blatantly saying he's gonna be a "cancer" but then again at least he's saying, "if you pick me up I'm not gonna be happy about it."

Plus, just because he's a millionaire, doesn't obligate you to be happy about everything 24/7. I guess you guys believe money determines happiness. In actuality, millions of dollars only slightly increases someone's happiness in life, if at all. Take a psychology class and you will figure that out.

Not at all. Do you think the Lakers are Top 3 seed in the west with Paul/Kobe/Odom/Artest and minimum players and rookies? OKC is better than them. Dallas. Maybe San Antonio. Maybe Portland.

Thats a 5th seed. You telling me that team is guaranteed to make it past round 1? Round 2?

Some Laker fans must still be in denial. That team is done.

Doesn't have to be happy but saying you are going to be a locker room cancer is way overboard.

Playing the prime Spurs, prime Suns, and prime Mavs teams during their playoff runs... when all he had was Shane Battier and Mike Miller... they did get spanked but I'm not sure he had the team to compete with those powers.

He averaged around 20 and 6.5 during those three years in the post season... definitely needed some help out there.

He played with the best frontcourts? Did you not watch any of the two rings Gasol won? He had to play center for both runs because their full time center has knees made out of glass. If you wanna rate Lamar Odom that highly than be my guest..

                              LOL. Here's a question?

                              Did you watch those games?

I did. I seem to recall that the Lakers were leading in the 4th in games 1 and 3. That series could have easily been 2-2 going back to LA. No excuses and Dallas was the better team but lets not act like they were blown out all 4 games.

It doesn't - but it also doesn't justify defending him IMHO.

I can see Billups' point... but if your career paying you 14 Million dollars was in jeopardy if you didn't move to Indiana... what would YOU do? Move - or retire?

                                He has that same option.

I would hope there is something somewhere that can protect a team if they pick him up and he dogs it. Not sure if the NBA has anything like that...
