One thing I remembered last night and thought was kinda funny was an article I read on Dwight when he just got drafted. He was talking like he was God sent and his main goal was to spiritually influence the lives of everyone around him.
8 years and 5 baby mamas later he's the most hated player in the NBA. Adidas would rather shoot pointless commercials of Derrick Rose rehabbing than put Dwight on TV right now.

Re: NBA Off Topic
I do agree with BigEast that Dwight should just keep his trap shut. It's beyond beating a dead horse by now on Shaq's part.
Watching the actual interview though, it's hard to say Dwight looks stupid for responding.
I disagree with BigEast on Dwight being in Shaq's shadow, I don't think Dwight is in Shaq's shadow at all. They're two completely different players. Shaq was never the defensive juggernaut Dwight is and Dwight will probably never be the offensive powerhouse Shaq was. Just because Dwight now plays for LA doesn't mean he's in anyone's shadow.
Shaq was never in anyone's shadow when he came to LA, I don't think Kareem was in Wilt's shadow. All these centers had completely different skill sets and were all great in their own regard.

Re: NBA Off Topic
Wait? What? Did you even see Shaq play before 2000? He was great defensively, and since when is Dwight a Juggernaut? In comparison to some of the defensive greats I don't even think many people would have dwight in their top threes
Exactly the reason I hate him. He's so fake.
Compared to other great defensive centers, Dwight might not surpass them but he's been the best one of his time. Also a case that cannot be argued.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic
Three time Defensive Player of the Year (2009-2011)
Four time rebounding champ
Two time shot block leader
Four time First Team Defense
One time 2nd Team Defense
That doesn't describe a defensive juggernaut to Kashanova eh? Not surprising in the least.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic
Why can't they both be defensive juggernauts?
I'll say Dwight is a great defensive player, but what competition does he have? It's not like he's banging with other elite centers since he's basically the only one.
Put him up against Ewing, Olajuwon, Robinson, etc and I'll bet he doesn't look so dominant.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Who cares how Dwight would look against those all-time greats? That is not even a part of the discussionComment

Re: NBA Off Topic
My mistake, Shaq made 2nd team defense three times.
He was a terrible PnR defender in his prime. Absoultely the worst.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic
Look who Shaq went up against during the prime of his career. Nobody. Yet he only made one 2nd team defensive team, was never Defensive player of the year. He was never at Dwight's level defensively. To call Shaq a defensive juggernaut is laughable.

It seems to me that Shaq was so dominant offensively it was overlooked that he was actually damn good on the defensive end too.
As far as number of DPOY awards go, Shaq had to compete with Mutumbo, Olajuwon, Mourning, Ben Wallace, etc. I'm not really sure who Howard has had to compete with aside from maybe Garnett and Chandler.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: NBA Off Topic
You put Dwight in the beginning of the 2000's era and I'm certain he still racks up DPOY awards.
I'm trying to remember elite level defensive big men in that era, but I know that centers the caliber of centers around that time weren't too great. Take nothing away from Shaquille because he was the greatest force I've ever seen.. outside of LeBronComment

Re: NBA Off Topic
Shaq was never close to the level of Dwight defensively. Ever. That means before 2000 and whatever other year Shaq played in the NBA. Case opened and case closed.
Compared to other great defensive centers, Dwight might not surpass them but he's been the best one of his time. Also a case that cannot be argued.
