    Re: 2012 NBA Draft Discussion

But as crazy as it sounds, for the Hornets, Kidd-Gilchrist is the right pick.

There's a gaunt line between a need and a want. Missing in all of the post-lottery uproar of league conspiracies concerning the top of the draft order is that teams are sometimes forced to choose between the two.

Often, especially when it comes to professional sports, the line that divides what a team needs and what it wants blurs when the draft order is set. It often gets further indistinguishable when everyone is saying there's one player who can and will change the entire direction of a franchise. In some cases save it.

This year that player is Davis, the NBA's can't-miss version of Andrew Luck. But the Hornets don't need him. He's a want, a desire.

The Bobcats, on the other hand, and with almost desperate severity, need Davis. Not because they finished with the worst winning percentage in NBA history, but simply because no other player in the draft balances their roster like he would. No other player in the draft comes close to completing them.

How is Anthony Davis a want for the Hornets?

Emeka Okafor is a big meh(although if he was not $10+ million i'd be fine with him), Carl Landry/Kaman are FAs i'm pretty sure and Gustavo Ayon is a role player.

Trevor Ariza(another meh) is still a decent player and under contract for 2 more years I think and Aminu is still a young player. Now you throw in the fact of the $$ a potential star like Davis could bring in through tickets, etc.

      Stupid article is stupid

Why is he talking about MKG like he's expected to be a dominate offensive player? This may make sense if he was selling Beal, Barnes, or Robinson. If MKG becomes a dominate force on offense it will take about the same amount of effort and time as it will take Davis to do the same if ever for both.

By comparison, Amare Stoudemire averaged 15 & 6 this past season.

T-Rob would have to be going for 20+ consistently to average out at 15 & 7 over the course of a season.
As far as him being 6'8....that's really the huge question. He's been measured at 6'10 as well so who knows. I think he is plenty tall enough to play PF in the NBA and his athleticism/wingspan only helps him.

Hendo averaged 16 a game last year and between the two, I see Robinson being the more likely leading scorer between the two.

If the Bobcats are really, truly dumb enough to take Thomas Robinson at 2, then I will throw a party in the street. Beal and Kyrie would be the PERFECT backcourt.

Even better, we get to capitalize on two screw ups and come away with MKG.

How is that screw up for us?..we need shooters that can shoot right now, bu they know who our GM is, Beal and MKG might be there and Ernie might trade it or pick a international player... So he might screw it up regardless

MKG as the work ethic and competitiveness that could turn him into an elite player. Reminds me of Ron Artest without the mental problems.

Beal is a great player and would be a great fit for either PG, but passing on MKG would be foolish.

What are your guys opinions on Harrison Barnes in terms of best fit and how good he'll be?

Right now, I see a Rudy Gay, or Maybe a lesser Carmelo in terms of how good Barnes is offensively. I see him being an 17-22 points per game career shooter at worst.

I think getting drafted by the Pistons would be a godsend as well. Tayshaun Prince can guide ands mentor Barnes into being a dominant 2-way player, and he'll pair exceptionally well with Brandon Knight.

MKG is basically a less athletic Gerald Wallace with a poor jump shot. Not something you take at 2.

IMHO, Barnes will max out at around 14-16PPG. I don't see "elite" in him in any way.

I picture him like a poor man's Caron Butler.

Not sure why so many people are so high on him.

Really think Beal could be something..a poor mans Eric Gordon in my eyes.

But, I think the steal of the draft will be Jeremy Lamb, whoever lands him..wouldn't mind the Bobcats getting him..have him and Kemba back together.(that could be a homer steal also)
