Re: How bad do Charlotte fans hate the name Bobcats?

Most people on this thread are right on point. New Orleans' new owner already stated he's getting rid of the Hornets nickname "tomorrow if possible" for something that makes more sense regionally. So that name should become available in the next year or so.

I'd be 100% on board for either the Hornets nickname returning, or becoming the Flight as a connection could easily be formed with either. And for the few that don't think the name matters, you have no idea how much NC hates the "Bobcats" in part because of the 1st owner.

The Hornets sold out every game for 7 consecutive years, and North Carolina is the ONLY state in the southern part off the US where basketball even remotely goes toe to toe with football (not that it trumps it).

      In terms of color scheme...

Hornets - No brainer. Bring back the teal with purple as it's alternate

Flight - Well the NC license plate is red and blue so that's always likely but the Pistons, Sixers, Harks, Wizards, and Clippers all already have that scheme. I'd be for something totally different like green and grey/silver ala the Philly Eagles, or the Under Armour sweatshirt I'm wearing lol.

Also, the SEVENTY SIXERS (4th of July in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia), Mavericks = reference to the "wild wild west", A clipper is a navy ship that was a reference to San Diego, a Piston is a component in reciprocating engines (Detroit auto industry reference) and a Knickerbocker is an old time term from Manhattan's aristocracy that literally referred to someone as a "New Yorker" just like "Yankee" is more commonly used today.

OT: Is there a way to play with those Hornets uniforms in 2K11 ?

Man... the NBA logos, uniforms, etc. were at their best in the 90s and that'a not even the nostalgia talking.

That seems to be true for most pro sports, though. I loved the 90s NFL look too..

            Ehhh....

            Spoiler

As for a "Flight" color scheme, how about baby blue and silver? Even if it'd almost blatantly be stealing UNC's colors lol.

It would be really difficult for me to support that color scheme.

I actually like those, except for the Cleveland unis...

I'm also a fan of my Tampa Bay Bucs "creamsicle" uniforms too, so take what I say with a grain of salt..

I like the first logo, color scheme is decent. Would be even better if it had UNC colors though.

agree on the font and I'd rather see Charlotte on the jersey

They just need to get Hornets back when New Orleans gets rid of that name.

Re: How bad do Charlotte fans hate the name Bobcats?

No offense to the citizens of Charlotte, but the team name, and logo are the worst in the NBA.

On the other hand, when I was a 5th grader in Tucson, AZ in 1992, Larry Johnson's Hornets jersey was my first of many. Now that was a classic jersey. I even had my orthodontist throw on purple and teal rubber bands on my braces (teeth).

The logo and the colors took the whole nation by storm. It wasn't uncommon to see dudes sporting Starter jackets with HUGE Hornets logos on the back in every town across America. I remember my mom introducing me to some work friends when I was a little kid in Tucson, and this lady was like "Oh, hiyee! Are you guys from Charlotte?" because I was head to toe in Hornets gear.

And beyond that, I believe throughout the decade, other teams, even in other sports, tried to capitalize on the success. I know when the Diamondbacks rolled into Phoenix in the late nineties, I couldn't help but think "trying to capitalize on team merchandise sales a la Hornets" by choosing teal and purple. It's just speculation of course, but I think the Florida Marlins teal, and the Seattle Mariners alternate jerseys in 1994 were doing the same thing.

Other than my beloved Suns "fireball" jerseys that came in 1992 (RIP), there is nothing more classic than that pin-striped white home, and teal away Hornets jersey from 1992.

I'm a skinny white boy, although 30 now, and the "thugs" and "hard" B-boy types of the world look at me and laugh on these mean streets of Chicago because I do my own thing - but I've been trying to track down a proper fitting Starter Hornets jacket, as well as authentic shorts for several years now, and I will sport them with pride, no matter how goofy I look to them.

A couple years ago, I thought I finally had it. I bought an XL Starter jacket with the huge Hornet on the back, but when it arrived - it was a children's XL =(

If New Orleans is going to get a new name regardless, then I think they should give the name and logos back to Charlotte. If they wanna keep the history, cool, but give the name, color scheme and logos/jerseys back. I will never forgive the Hornets if they allow the name Charlotte Flight to be unleashed on the the world.

Seriously that may fit Charlotte, but for a professional sports franchise it sounds ridiculous.

To be honest, I don't think Flight is much of a step down from Thunder, Heat, Magic, etc. I'd get used to it. I do prefer team names that end with an s though.

Honestly I don't have much problem with Heat or Magic. I can buy those being the name of a pro sports franchise. Coming up with a name is hard, I get that. The only names I have real issue with in the NBA are Bobcats, Thunder and Wizards cause they sound so bush league. Eventually you get used to them yeah, but they still are terrible.
