It's the fact that the team is named after the guy who bought them (Robert Johnson) that makes it bad. Especially considering the fact that he no longer owns the team. I just wish Charlotte is somehow able to get the Hornets name back.

I get that, but compared to your other options it isn't that bad, and unless New Orleans moves away from the Hornets name then there's nothing better I've heard.

Yes, the majority of fans in North Carolina prefer Flight over Bobcats. It had nothing to do with MJ as he was not involved at the time, it's because North Carolina's tagline is "first in flight" (The Wright brothers flew the first airplane in Kitty hawk, NC just in case anyone didn't know) and "flight" also has a bit of a basketball connotation.

When BOB Johnson named the team after himself even tho Flight won the fan vote a TON of people got the feeling that "this isn't our team" and and turned their back to it.

With that said, Hornets is overwhelmingly preferred over anything else. I mean they sold out 364 consecutive games... that's nearly 9 years straight!!! I flipped over to Fox Sports just now and there can't be 10K there now... despite tix being like $10.

I like those Charlotte mock ups. I always liked the Hornets old jerseys and stadium.

Well, everyone in Charlotte is riding around with "First in Flight" on their license plate....which is why I'm sure most chose it in the poll. It represents the city.

I'd take that over Bobcats anyday

As 24th and others have said, NC License Plates has the slogan "First In Flight." Also, is the Flight nickname any worst than the Heat or Magic. Neither one of those really are the best team names when you think about it.

If they do get the 1# pick and its possible go all out and bring back the Hornets name ASAP. Think it will help bring the fans in as a "new start" and help some fans get over the thought that Jordan isnt willing to spend money. Big gamble but merchandise sales might make it much easier to deal with in the short term while hopefully and gradually getting the team better long term.

The bottom line is this: Fans of basketball in the QC and in North Carolina in general love basketball but hate the Bobcats.

Bring back the buzz.

And for the record, I love the name Charlotte Flight. If they chose to go that route, I wonder what color scheme they will use. I don't like the blue and orange

A teams name usually has something to do with the city or the state that its located in, or orginally some of them were.

I think we would get used to Flight pretty quickly, the same as we saw the transition from the Bullets to the freaking Wizards... that name sounds like a fake Globetrotters team and it was accepted.

I highly doubt that NO and Utah are going to give up their names just so NC can have the name Hornets back, so we can move away from that unfortunately, because thats how it really should be.

Now that the egotistical owner is out of the way, you can remove his name along with it.

A name also can indicate what you are, it describes who you are, etc... (so dont be out there naming your daughters tequila and jezebel)

The New Orleans Hornets aren't going to be using that name for much longer but I have no idea if they're going to give away the rights o the name/logo.

Alot of other teams have names that represent their cities. The Heat, Magic, Thunder, Spurs, Celtics, and Rockets are examples of this. Personally I like the name flight and it represents the city.
