Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached

Besides KJ urging Hansen to "take the high road" the following was reported:

The Sports Business Journal reported Monday that a Sacramento group, led by Vivek Ranadive, had pledged to forgo any revenue sharing payments if the team stayed in Sacramento. A source close to the Hansen/Ballmer group said Tuesday the Seattle group has made a similar pledge, and does not expect to receive any money if the team moves.

Just going to keep getting uglier it seems.

Also, the Sac owners apparently still don't have the cash to put in escrow for the team.

In all seriousness...I know you'd like to avoid relocation at all costs, but come on now. The Seattle offer is now significantly higher, and literally everything that needs to be in place is in place other than the team itself. Meanwhile, the Sacramento people are having trouble collecting cash for their inferior offer. I don't see what the issue is now.

Chris Hanson is making it so that if they say no, it will clearly be antitrust violation. His offer is like 20% more than the Sac offer now, right? It's unreal to me.

As far as Seattle agreeing to not take revenue sharing money, I don't see that as nearly as big of a deal as it is in Sac. Seattle is a big enough market, that it shouldn't be on the receiving end anyway. They should be paying into it. Sacramento, however, needs that money to field a competitive franchise.

Man, Hansen is nuts. If he fails, it certainly won't be for lack of effort. Upping the valuation by $75 million and then trumping the Sacramento's revenue sharing opt out, and saying they'll be a revenue sharing payer on top of it? Dang.

Given the reports that Ballmer was PISSED about the vote last week, think this is more of Ballmer saying **** it and just throwing in all this Microsoft money to the valuation?

Yep. On top of that, if the rumors are true, there is a significant number of owners who are not in David Stern's camp and believe they should have the ability to choose whom to sell to. I think this is also a move to help convince more onto that side so they can avoid litigation.

This is what I see as well. I am still hoping for expansion announcements because when Hansen says "I believe now is the time for the NBA to return to Seattle" I believe he means he is willing to pursue every means necessary including litigation.
