Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
Yeah, a lot of them were pretty clueless about the situation and wanted the team to stay at all costs, which I understand.Comment

Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
Here is the Seattle group's latest statement:
"Even as we are disappointed with the developments related to our efforts to purchase the Kings, we would just like to reiterate our dedication to bringing the NBA back to Seattle," Hansen wrote. "We will continue to press forward with our arena plans with the same commitment and effort we have over the last two years, and look forward to working with the City (of Seattle) and (King) County to see the project through the hurdles that remain. Likewise, we plan to continue to work with the league regarding opportunities that may arise to return an NBA franchise to our City."Comment

Just throwing this out there since Calabro is pretty connected in the broadcasting industry and tends to be conservative with rumors...
Jessamyn McIntyre @JessamynESPN 9m Kevin Calabro, quoting a high-ranking TV Sports executive, hears #NBA will return to Seattle in 24 months, quicker than previously thoughtMember of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
Sacramento brah checking in - Good post, right on the money.
Originally posted by Proof21Kevin Johnson did the right thing for Sacramento people..this is MUCH bigger than a basketball arena..our downtown is going to be revitalized..I don't want to get into arguments, but questioning him is silly. The city is $2B in debt over the next 30 years (due to retiring, lack of sales tax, etc.) so just keep that in mind. More shops (and a sports team) downtown = tax revenue.
Sacramento doesn't like to Maloof's because of how they ran the team the last several years. When they were striking it rich they were great owners, but when they were at their lows they were terrible owners. Plus a report came out indicating they wanted to move the team immediately when they purchased, however, didn't because that is when we were winning. When an ownership group looks to move the team at least 4 times (Anaheim, Henderson, Las Vegas, Virginia Beach) they tend to lose fans in their home town. Add to that they never fixed issues with the current arena (broken toilets..AHHH!) we are happy to see them go.
I understand if you aren't in this area you might not understand, but the Maloof's never truly cared about this city, which is why we are glad they are gone.
Thankfully this situation is done and now we can focus on a new era of Sacramento Kings basketball. I will also hold on to my personal promise of doing whatever I can to assist Seattle getting their team back. I mean to ill-will towards any Seattle fan and I hope we can all remain civil. I know it got ugly towards the end of this saga. Here is to some classic Sacramento/Seattle playoff games! But please...no Jerome James domination necessary.

Re: Agreement for new Seattle arena reached
Milwaukee is in the same boat Seattle was in 8 years ago. An owner that wants to sell locally (Kohl is getting old), in need of a new arena, and a political climate that seems hesitant to raise taxes to fund it. Bad combination.
However, rumors/leaks have come from both sides of the tv contract negotiations (NBA and broadcasting execs) that Seattle will be back in the league within 2-3 years. That screams expansion.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

It would be nice to get the Sonics back at the same time that Charlotte "gets" the Hornets back.Comment
