Re: ****2012 NBA FINALS DISCUSSION THREAD****

It's not really about who plays or who doesn't play but much more on how they play. They've played some lasy basketball in that first game to me. No offense, no off ball movement, Lebron's first two shots are right in durant's face. Too many iso ball, bad switch, bad matchups on D.

I hope they get their act together and offer us a good serie.

Again I dont think this coach knows how to get the best out of these guys, and they still play the take turns offense too much.
Exactly. There's a difference between how LBJ thinks he should contribute at the end and reality. The coach may be trying to put him in the best place and he still does his own thing. HMcCoy's break down is a good one but only in the way he's trying to be a "closer". You can get the ball back to him, and if you can't that SHOULD mean that either Wade or Bosh can get the ball with little help around them... just like Harden taking over late in the Spurs game when they put so much attention on denying Durant.

It's so frustrating to watch too, bc it's the same thing I see at the gym playing pick up. Yeah, you're the best player... but no, that doesn't mean you should bring the ball up every time, go iso and only pass when you get stuck dribbling into traffic. It's just not smart basketball.

In the same sense, defense is not about playing one on one. Westbrook didn't really "kill Wade" he killed the Miami Heat. Even in man to man D the entire team should have a plan. Westbrook isn't known to look for the open man when he's barreling down the lane. He should be funneled into a helper waiting to take the charge or force a contested shot over what should be a bigger player. MAKE him kick it out to the spot up shooters (not named Durant of course). Guys worried about stopping "their man" usually stink in help D for that reason alone which creates even more problems.

I guess being a smart veteran defender = flopping these days. I'll admit Wade, Chalmers, and James are baaad floppers. In that order. But Battier? Ehhh

I think there's a difference between all out flopping and selling fouls. I don't like that in order for something to be called a guy basically has to hit the floor. In spite of that I've seen Shane Battier overreact to a hit, but it was usually a legit foul.

Battier's a flopper and a "beeeg tymeeee" like Ibaka said. After all, he is a dookie and that's one of the things they taught and continue to teach real well down there.

I love Battier as a defender, but he's such a constant flopper. The kind of player that will run into people on the court and fall down to get a foul.

See this just isn't true (and I hate DOOKIES as much... no, more than the next guy). Battier tries to get charges. He's not always successful and the current state of flopping helps him get away with some calls that should be fouls on him, but that's pretty much all he does. I can see calling him a flopper for trying to sell a charge when he barely gets hit but that's very different to me than running into people on the court and falling down like you mentioned, flailing to the ground after a shot like Wade/Paul, diving into the stands on a box out or when someone fights around a pick like LBJ, etc.

I wish all of Battier's plays were called correctly. I think he'd still be ahead of the league in actual charges taken and the craft would be respected more... while all the other crap would go away. I also wish they took that stupid semi circle from under the rim which is really what's screwed up the charge/block call on drives more than anything else. Players should need to get in position and not move to take the charge. The semi circle was meant to be in addition to that, but now it's just get your feet outside of that and nothing else matters.

Battier definitely goes for charges on purpose. He isnt the ideal guy you would use an example of thta

As far as I'm concerned Battier led the charge, pun intended, of flopping, in terms of Americans at least. He started the outrageous amount of flops/charges that Dook started taking, they were always annoying but Battier took it to a whole new level. I still remember it clear as day, he was the first player that I got pissed at for flopping back when he was a Duke.
