Acquiring Joe Johnson and re-signing Deron Williams "officially" on the 11th will put them well over the cap.. Hence why they are scrambling and trying to pressure the magic to agree to it now so they can process it first

Man these "super teams" still have to play ball...so until we start seeing three peats and what not from them, I couldn't care less....I will continue to enjoy NBA basketball...sure, I could do without all the extra nonsense (ie parades and the dwightmare), but hey, that's 2012 for you....
The fact that I had NO idea who was going to go home with the ship gong into the playoffs last year was great...Comment

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (Updates 1st PG)
Courtney Lee was down at the Orlando Summer League today, Doc and Ainge were there (as well as many other coaches and GM's so not reading too much off that):
[...Courtney Lee, the free agent guard who met with Doc Rivers Saturday night, pointed out today that the Celtics may have another option in their pursuit of him.
“Well, Houston loves getting draft picks, so that could open it up to a sign and trade (between the Rockets and Celtics),” the former Houston guard, who lives in Orlando, said today while watching an Orlando Summer League game. “That’s one possibility that the Celtics have.”...
“We’ll see where (the Celtics) are at,” said Lee. “But for the most part the meeting went well. Me and Doc have always had a good relationship since I’ve been in the NBA. I’m friends with both of his sons, Austin and Jeremiah. It was just a casual meeting between me and Doc.”
Well, not entirely casual.
“In this stage it’s a process, feeling out teams that have an interest in you,” said Lee. “I don’t have to make a decision right away....]Favorite Teams:

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (Updates 1st PG)
I assume the Celtics are thinking small ball if they pursue Lee, and probably playing him at the 3 some. Either that or have Terry play back-up PG, which probably wouldn't be a good idea. Who knows.Comment

I hope they get him, have my doubts. No Cash, would have to be via Sign and trade and who do have left to trade?
Solid defender, 3 Point Shooter, 6'5 so not undersized. Perfect fit for Ainge.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (Updates 1st PG)
Maybe it's me but...everything broke right for the Heat last year. I give LBJ all the credit in the world but they didn't play like a "Big 3".
They played like a maniac out of his mind (LBJ) and 2 other All-Star caliber players...because Wade and Bosh were both ailing.
To me...this past year's Heat team was LBJ's Cav team with 2 additional All-Stars. That's it. He carried the Heat like MJ carried the Bulls.
Can the "star" of the other Big 3 teams in the league do the same-
Kobe in LA
Dwight in BK
CP3 in LA
Melo in NY
Rondo in BOS
KD in OKC
It remains to be seen.
You need a solid bench to do it. And out of the teams above...it'll come down to who has the best bench/supporting cast IMO.Comment

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (Updates 1st PG)
Probably some form of JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore (non-guaranteed contract also so they can just cut him if they want to after the trade), Sean Williams (non-guaranteed as well), throw in cash considerations can give up to 3 mil IIRC, then some draft picks would obviously be the main part of the trade the other pieces are strictly to make the trade possible.
I saw somewhere that if we offer a package consisting of the above it would allow us to offer Lee 5-6 mil per year.Favorite Teams:

So far, this offseason has been pretty cool. Some under the radar type moves. If we can finish off signing Derek Fisher, I'd be optimistic about the Cavaliers future.Too Old To Game Club

Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (Updates 1st PG)
About the point about super teams before.
In the 1980s:
5 teams out of 25 made the NBA Finals, 20%
4 teams won championships, 16%
1990s:
11 teams out of 29 made the NBA Finals. 37.9%
4 teams won championships, 13.8%
2000s:
11 teams out of 30 made the NBA Finals. 36.7%
5 teams won championships, 16.7%
So far in the 10s:
We have had 5 teams make the NBA Finals and 3 different champions with 7 seasons left in the decade.Last edited by phenom1990; 07-09-2012, 06:41 PM."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman

They don't know when Bradley will be back yet. So they need someone big enough to guard 2s because Terry isn't the answer. Plus they need another wing defender besides Bradley and Pierce because Pierce seems to get into foul trouble."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman
