I'm totally against the Knicks giving up Shumpert for Nash. And I know I'm in the minority here.

I can't believe the Knicks are about to do this. Why draft guys? Just ship off your first rounders every year and sign a bunch of old PGs to man the roster. Then watch them break down late in the year.

For everything Nash can give you on offense...who's he gonna guard? We have enough matadors on defense- Amare, Novak, Lin
Agreed the Knicks aren't close enough to give up a good asset to land Nash.

Even with Nash they're behind the Heat, Celtics, and Nets (if they land Howard, maybe even if they don't), not to mention back behind the Bulls next year.

I wouldn't make the deal for That reason. I'm not high on Shump as Knicks fans are. Think he is a good defender, not great. and shouldn't point that much value on strictly a good perimeter defender.

maybe I'm alone in that assessment.

Thing is, I think Nash would put them near that championship level. You have two guys in Melo and Amare who are elite scorers, and if you want anyone in the league to get these guys to work best together, it's Nash.

Then you have the defensive player of the year in Chandler who can guard the paint and clear up the boards.

I think Nash will bring out the best in all there skill sets, which normally conflict.

Defense it definitely an issue, which is why they should probably go and find a defense first SG to start so they can bring Smith off the bench.

And then you got Lin off the bench as well.

I don't know how much Grant Hill wants, but even someone like Keith Bogans would work in that lineup. A good defender who gives you about one or two threes a game.

The problem though is defense and ****ty froncourt depth

If Nash ends up in New York that pretty sure insures Kidd will be back in Dallas though, since apparently its between the Knicks and Mavs for him right now.

I still want us to go get Dragic, don't get why the Mavs aren't high on him.

I really, REALLY hope there is a way we can get this done without having to give up Shumpert, but if we can't...

I mean, I won't be upset. We are a markedly better team with Steve Nash than we are with Shumpert I'd say, and we could find a defensive shooting guard I guess for a low price. But a bench of Lin, JR Smith, Novak, is something that I like. I'd rather not give up Shump, but if it happens I wouldn't be mad about it.

Nash will get you wins in the regular season and put butts in the seats at MSG.

Who's playing defense come the playoffs? Who's guarding Derrick Rose, Rondo, Wade, Pierce, etc.

So while guys like Avery Bradley, Iggy, etc. can put the clamps down on our backcourt, we can just try to outscore them on the other end, right?

I don't mind getting Nash, but now that Shumpert's included, I'm against it.

Shump got votes for All-NBA Defensive teams last year as a rookie. He was near the tops in steals as a rookie.

If healthy, he's going to approach that level of being one of the best perimeter defenders in the league.

We won some games last year because of his defense:

-the game in Toronto comes to mind when Calderon was eating Lin's lunch
-the game at Minnesota when he D'd up Rubio at the end

You give that up for an aging PG as if we didn't have two on our roster last year in Baron and Bibby.

Dolan doesn't learn. He jumps after big names. He doesn't believe in developing talent at all.

Sick day for me if we give up Shumpert for Nash.

Our roster wouldn't be finished after the Nash deal, we'd have to find a defensive-minded vet for cheap which I don't think would be that difficult.

Also, our offense was gross last year against Miami. I'm just as concerned about our offense as I am about our defense. I think Nash will bring our offense to a much higher level than Lin or anyone else can. Plus he can shoot his *** off to help spread the floor. Even at his age he is in another stratosphere than Lin.

I'm surprised that so many Knick fans are against giving up Shumpert. Same thing they all said about Gallo & Wilson last February.

If they land Nash and keep Shump, damn. That's gonna be a real nice team next year. Starting lineup of Nash/Shump/Melo/Amare/Chandler with Lin, JR and Novak coming off the bench. If they can find a decent backup front court guy that's a championship contender to me.
