Nope 5'10 could touch the rim, but not quite there.

I'm grabbing rim right now at 5'9" without doing really anything (this spring was the first time I've played since high school). Barely can't palm the ball. Y'all got me ready to start doing 200 calf raises every day so by January I'm getting up with ease.

Yeah, I'm the lazy athletic type. I used to be faster 4-5 years ago at 14 than I am now simply because I play more video games. Going to remedy that by running more often and doing calf raises along with squatting so that I can finally drive the lane and dunk on some fool who gets under the basket instead of getting a weak alley on a fast break.

Jumping off two feet for alley oops and off 1 foot when I have the ball. As someone said before. Standing Reach is overlooked. I've seen guys with 9'2 reaches of it's fairly easy for them to dunk

I'm 17 years old white dude, 5'10 159 pounds former football(or soccer if you like it that way) player. Haven't really done any excercise ever since I stopped playing football because my knees hurt me too much on occasions, which was 2 and a half years ago. Now I can touch the rim sometimes and can palm the ball since like a year ago when I was 5'8 and 1/2... Everybody says I have gigantic hands... My wingspan is 5'11 and standing reach is 7'6. I gained 29 pounds in the last year or so.. I started running(goal is to run 6.2 miles) and doing 500 sit-ups every day. Hopefully I will be able to dunk it by the time I turn 18 Appearently I need 37 inch vertical. Wilt Chamberlain had 9.5 spread spread between wrist and tip of middle finger, I have 8.7 inch spread.

I'm 5'9" with a standing reach of 7'6" and can't dunk. I can put my fingers around the rim, so I can probably jump 32"-34". I can palm the ball to dunk 9'6" rims, but I always lose it right before I get high enough on a real hoop. I also just can't jump off of 1-foot. My 1-foot vert is probably 20". I'm 17, so hopeful about being able to dunk someday.

It's crazy reading that alot of people just have trouble palming the ball. I've been able to palm the ball since 8th grade(yess Rondo-like hands) The only thing that was holding me back was my height. But my wingspan is around 6'2 with a standing reach at 7'1.. I guess its just weird for me cause i've never had trouble palming..

I envy you, for I am an inch taller, yet my standing reach is two inches shorter (with shoes) and I cannot palm a ball.

increasing your flexibility ought to help increase your 1-foot jumping abilities

oh the beauty of individual anatomical differences

For those who experience difficulties palming the ball, there are strengthening exercizes as i'm sure you're aware. Also, if you desire to simply throw down a dunk, outside of the game setting, there are resins and powders available which will help to maintain possession of the ball. Additionally, if you start a job or a hobby which roughens the palm skin that could help.

I've considered resins just for the sake of having a better grip on the rock overall, not just in terms of dunking. Something about my skin and hand makeup is clearly not conducive to being able to get a good grip on a basketball. I mean, larger hands would help, but I also think my hands are abnormally dry and slippery, which is why I can come closest to palming a ball during the dog days of summer, when it's humid outside. At that point, my hands get a little sticky and there's this pocket between the ball being very grippable to me and the ball flat out becoming wet and slippery where I actually feel I can do more things in the air before dunking, just because I actually have a solid hand on the pill.

I feel a bit like a freak, having a standing reach of 7'4" at 5'5".

I posted here earlier, and I said I couldn't even touch rim, but now I CAN! I'm about 5'10 and 15 years old on sunday. I know I shouldn't be excited about just touching rim, but I am.
