Kind of off-tpoic, but I wish TNT would do an hour show (random commentary - VH1 I Love the 80's) style where they rank the top 50 in game dunks! There have been some awesome ones over the years: Blake, Kemp, Dr J, Chambers, Starks, Kevin Johnson, Baron, Jordan, Nique, etc...would be an entertaining show leading up to All-Star Saturday Night!

All of that, of course, is in contrast to a lot of what ESPN's tried to throw together before. For instance, a few days ago I stumbled upon an ESPN special from a few years ago ranking the best NBA dunkers of all-time. Vince Carter was #4.... let that one sink in for a minute. I mean, thankfully two commentators were given editorials at the end of the show where they both insisted Carter be number one but... man.
Here's a quick review of FSN's countdown:

On second look, I'm actually kind of surprised Baron's dunk on Jermaine was at #9. I felt like it was a relatively new show but I'm guessing it was early 2007 at the latest because one would have to believe his slam on Kirilenko would have taken its place. Also, I would have taken his slam on Garnett as well. In fact, I even like this one better, though I admit David Wesley jumping and yelling like a school girl is half of what makes the dunk:

Re: 2013 Dunk Contestees
I loved watching that show. Really wish they still had it on. The countdown shows were great. Only thing I hated was how they had the same clip as a top 5 clip, in numerous countdowns(specifically "The Catch"). I still never got the significance of that play...Comment

Re: 2013 Dunk Contestees
Update:
James White will be in the dunk contest , he already got my vote to win it all no doubt."The more you sweat in practice , the less you bleed in battle."

Re: 2013 Dunk Contestees
Ross has some big support for being in contest, so hopefully he is in it.
Official word of the contestants doesn’t arrive until Thursday night, but there is a groundswell of support for Ross which includes Eastern Conference all-star captain Dwyane Wade, who has taken to Twitter to trumpet the inclusion of Ross.
As captain, Wade will have some influence on which dunkers are chosen but, in the end, it will come down to the league making the choice.Comment

If the captain of eastern conference wants someone in the contest, I hope that NBA takes that under consideration as a reason for Ross to be in dunk contest.
Ross should definitely be invited to the dunk contest, this kid can do some pretty crazy stuff in the air ( his dunking style kind of reminds me a bit of Desmond Mason)."The more you sweat in practice , the less you bleed in battle."

Re: 2013 Dunk Contestees
Further, assuming the contest is going to follow the East vs. West pattern, who are nominees for the west spots?Comment

@VD - you should be a dunk contest judge. You always have great input on dunk styles and other comparisons between various Dunkers.Comment

Ha, yeah I'd be up for that. Truly though, I'd just like to see real judges return, period. That online voting push is just absolutely terrible.Comment

Re: 2013 Dunk Contestees
One excellent step in the right direction - six contestants have been officially named. They are as follows:
East:
James White
Gerald Green
Terrence Ross
West:
Eric Bledsoe
Kenneth Faried
Jeremy Evans
My hope is this good news train keeps chugging along. Next I'd like to hear normal rules have been re-implemented.Comment

Re: 2013 Dunk Contestees
Yea this dunk contest is already shaping up pretty good so far (contestants wise). That's another thing I want to hear more about is the rules, either way I hope it won't hinder the contestants at all."The more you sweat in practice , the less you bleed in battle."

Go dunk the ball, it's a dunk contest. And also take that stupid timer out. If he misses the dunk, oh well, that's why you practice.Comment

Re: 2013 Dunk Contestees
I just read a Tweet from a Fox Sports guy saying Hakeem Olajuwon told him he'd be one of the judges for the event. So again, one more step in the right direction.Comment
