    Re: Yoa Ming

he will make shaq defend him on the outside(ming has an above average perimeter game compared to the other centers in the league) which will open a lot of doors for mobley and francis--and this being his first year--i don't expect too much but 2 or 3 years from now--he will be a force in the nba

you guys stop hating! if i had the first pick, i'd probably pick ming too--his potential is unlimited
and BTW--do you guys really think they drafted ming to stop shaq? he will take shaq out of the equation on defence because shaq will have to stay honest, because ming will hit the 15 -20 footer consistently--he just needs to get his *** kicked this year--then he'll get better

      Re: Yoa Ming

shaq will not come out of the box, he didn't for Divac, and Divac can shoot pretty well from outside, also Divac does a decent job on shaq, he does as well as anyone against him

and yes one day someone will push shaq around just like when AI and Kobe came up, they started to run around MJ and still are running around him, not cause they are better, but because he is getting older

I simply dont think Yao has what it takes to be good enough to contend with Shaq.

He could be a decent player though.

The NBA people are saying nice things just to not get in trouble, what are they gonna say, he sucks???

To me, I think Yao Ming is a question mark. Nobody knows how good he is gonna be, your gonna have to give him a least a few years in the league before you can judge him IMO.

yeah he could have a bad year this year, and then next year lead the division in scoring or rebounds, I guess I just don't think he's worth the hype, because playing in a league where you are one of like two- 7 footers is a hell of a lot different than playing in the NBA

It's also the fact that we won't practice with the Rockets for a long time. The Chinese team won't let him play for the Rockets until the tournament is over. Which means he won't really know the plays for the Rockets which may lead to confusion. That's why I don't expect a rookie award for him, but I think next he will be better.

I think the language barrier is gonna be a problem to. He's gonna have to get fluent with English pretty fast.

(IMO) I think he will be a bust (far as a number 1 pick). Will he be a superstar. No. Will he be alright. Maybe. I personal think he will be as useless as all the other players his height. He will block shots but struggle in the paint (rebounding/scoring)because lack of strength. This will force him to rely on shooting jumpers. I'll check him out tonight against the the USA squad and their (power forwards playing center) and see how he fairs. At least he has an outside shot unlike his predecessor's and decreasing number of true centers in the league may be in his favor.

How can you even compare Yao to Shaq? Seriously? They're two totally different players.

It's like comparing John Stockton and Troy Hudson. Just doesn't fly.

Yao will be good. I don't think it will happen this year, but if he doesn't completely get his self-esteem demolished this year, he should be good in a year or two. All he really needs to do is bulk up, get a little more physical, and learn how to dribble. Pretty easy development.

Yao is one of those guys that will make guys on his team ebtter just because of his presence. He can hit the 15 footer will a good amount of regularity, so it's gonna force their center out of the paint to come guard him and at least contest the shot. With run and gun guys like Francis, Mobley, and Nachbar on his team, that's really going to open up the floor. Francis should really have a field day with it, and in turn, so will Nachbar. Nachbar can shoot, and with Francis's increased dribble penetration due to the center being forced out, other defenders will have to collapse down, including Nachbar's, and Steve can just kick it out to him. I think there's a lot of potential for the Rockets.

well the reason I mentioned shaq, is because until some one can stop him the lakers are unstoppable, even bibby and the kings just couldn't hack it, and they tried to blame the refs cause they are a bunch of sore losers,

If I'm gonna pick a center for a #1 pick, I'm gonna take someone tough who can get at the boards and block shots with authority or maybe someone athletic like Kenyon Martin, who cares if Yao can shoot from 17 feet, can he play in the paint, that's what you have to ask

I agree bamaman. (IMO) A physical low post threat is money in the bank. A player with good skills will have a high FG% and just punish and wear out the opposition. Your example of the Lakers and Kings. Vlade and Webber just wanted to take jump shots and not attack the basket, hence live and die by the jump shot. The Mavericks are another example of tall talented guys who are jump shooters with no inside presence. Playoff time they are dominated time and time again. Granted there is a point to be made that this years draft did not have a potential Shaq or ready for prime time inside presence. Ming should be decent, however; worthy of the number one position is yet to be seen.
