Remember, this is Sheed's first game against the Nets as a member of the D. Pistons.

I think Sheed played one game in the regular season on the Pistons vs the Nets. That's when the Pistons streak of holding teams under 70 ended. Right?

Re: Pistons vs. Nets: Second Round Thread

I think 2 match-ups stand out above all else. One will be K-Mart vs. Sheed. Before Detroit aquired Sheed, I though they didn't have a good chance in this series. After Detroit aquired Sheed, I thought that they would dispatch of New Jersey easily. Now that Sheed is playing very hurt, it's hard to say. If Sheed can't guard K-Mart one on one because of his injury -- the Pistons are in big trouble. They need him to play through this injury so that he can jump the pick and rolls and defend K-Mart without a lot of help.

The other big matchup is Prince vs. Jefferson. Interestingly enough, Prince struggles on both ends of the floor more against Jefferson than he does against a guy like McGrady. Players that combine athletic ability and strength really give Tay problems. Jefferson has owned Tay through the short part of his career. Tay doesn't have to be as good as he was against Milwakee but he does have close the gap in this match-up somewhat for Detroit to win. Detroit can't be forced into double teams every time Jefferson touches the ball. They also can't afford no points out of the small forward position -- especially if Sheed isn't able to bring it offensively.

I think Darvin Ham is capable of doing a good job defending Jefferson straight up. At any rate, we may see Ham on the court just about as much as Tay if Tay has a lot of problems defending Jefferson. It's too bad Ham is pretty much a liability on offense in half-court sets. It would make it easier for Larry Brown to play him more minutes if he could contribute more offensively.

Rasheed is my #1 concern though. The condition of his foot is ultimately the key to the outcome of the series.
