2014 Off-Season Thread
Yeah spacing and perimeter shooting will be the largest question mark. Other than that they have scoring pieces, just none of them are great shooters.
I saw very, very little of Payton. And other than that all I have is what people here and scouts have said about him. I have no idea what his ceiling is offensively, I don't know if he has any sort of potential as a shooter..
But if he can develop to the point to where it's at least respectable that would be huge. Because Dipo, Harkless, and Harris will all be serviceable enough that you can't leave them open. It'll be up to Payton and Gordon to develop at least a decent shot.
I guess it's possible, Kendall Marshall wasn't ever supposed to be able to shoot, and guys like Marion, Kawhi, Deng, Ariza all went from poor to decent outside shooters.. If Gordon could do the same that would be huge.
I think Orlando just needs to be patient, and see what happens. Not follow in other below average teams footsteps and blow it all up every 2 or 3 years. Because this team really lucked out with Nik and Harris exceeding expectations, if the other guys do even close to the same it could be an exciting team.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
As a honorary Bobcats fan I would love to see him here if Clifford can keep his head on straight...dribbling out the shot clock is not Hornets basketball in the least...so there would definitely need to be some changes in philosophy,,.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
not only would that orlando lineup shoot like 20% from 3, theyd struggle to score inside. that paint would be so clogged up nobody is getting open looks inside 15 feet.
i think gordon HAS to play the 4 for them, regardless of if he is startnig or nicholson is. tobias is the only capable SF on the roster, so they are going to have to go after someone.
but lets get crazier with their defensive potential...
sign deng, start payton-dipo-deng-gordon-vuc, then bring harkless and nicholson off the bench.... could be an entire yar of 85-70 games for orlando lol
also, would orlando consider throwin some serious money @ bledsoe? he and dip would destroy teams with just pure athleticism alone, and it would allow them to keep payton on the bench along with the likes of hark/gordonLast edited by turty11; 06-30-2014, 08:13 PM.Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I don't believe they will play Gordon at the 4 unless they move someone.
If they don't start him it'll be to play Harkless at SF and Harris/O'Quinn starting at the 4. But Harkless needs to hurry up and grow some balls, he's just too timid.
If Gordon does start at the 4 I think it leaves Harris at 6th man rather than starting at the 3 over Mo.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I just don't know if Deng fits. They already have 3 guys who potentially could turn out to be similar players as him. I just don't think he offers enough at a big enough advantage over Harris/Gordon to throw serious money at him. Especially if it's for more than a couple seasons.
If Deng was a superstar caliber player that would be one thing, but I don't think he's enough better to toss him big money.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Miami would be better off IMO with a Gasol or Gortat or an Ariza or Deng. They can find any point guard to run the show or find a spot up shooter. I'd rather have another wing or big man. No need for a point guard like Lowry who dominates the ballComment

Miami would be nice with Ariza/Deng/Marion and an extra big, whoever that big is.
But they desperately need to address a Wade sub IMO. Their biggest weakness is when he leaves the game and there is zero defense and zero playmaking at his position.. It was so bad that when he sat games Douglas was the starting shooting guard, that's enough indication to know you have a problem.
Carter, Meeks, Stuckey, could help fill that void somewhat.. But if they were to land Lowry the need becomes much, much smaller to fill that spot. Because Lowry can do the creating without the need of a shooting guard to do it.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
his name is lebron.
they litteray need just someone who can score and play D, dont need any sort of playmaking out of their PG, doesnt even need to be a PG, just a wingComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I don't agree. They lost the finals that first year trying to run 99% of everything through LeBron and Wade. One of them always brought the ball up the court. They improved greatly by giving more to Mario and letting LeBron pick, or post, and improving their ball movement.
Leaving LeBron or Wade to constantly defend quick guards is also counter productive to what they will want to do and keep them fresh as possible.
Any time they take the ball out of guards hand it's iso Wade, iso LeBron, iso Bosh.. It's much more effective when those guys can post, or screen.. Even though Bosh has stopped doing anything besides spot up.

So what's the deal with the Heat? How much room will they have to sign people after the Big 3Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Based on what we've heard so far, some team will get them to sign a max offer sheet and Phoenix and Detroit will match.
Edit: And just as I type that: @ESPNSteinLine: As for Detroit's marquee free agent: Pistons have let it be known they want to keep Greg Monroe but won't rule out sign-and-trade if too $$$
@ESPNSteinLine: Atlanta Hawks are one team that keep coming up as a potential suitor for Greg Monroe as he becomes restricted free agent at 12:01 AM
@ESPNSteinLine: And the Orlando Magic are another team said to possess Greg Monroe interestLast edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 06-30-2014, 08:42 PM.NFL: Bills

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I'm guessing not very much, though I honestly have no idea. A lot of it depends on what they do with Haslem, Ray, Bird, Mario, Beas.. Because I believe Cole is the only player currently on the roster since everyone opted out of their contracts.
