    Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

Minnesota's been determined to unload Kevin Martin and JJ Barea in a Love deal -- no easy task for Cavs to make work without a third team.
    Per Woj

I hope these fools hold onto him all season, and end up empty handed. They don't have leverage. Their guy is going to opt out, and walk.

I forgot Barea was in Minnesota. Haven't heard from him since they gave him that bad contact after winning the championship with Dallas.

As much as anything, three non-guaranteed contracts give Cavs what one source calls, "Buying power," whether used on Love or elsewhere.

Yeah I also think I heard that the wolves are insisting that they send out Kevin Martin's contract and that they refuse to trade Dieng. Negotiations are a two way street and these dudes aren't working with the Cavs or anyone else. I don't know if it's entitlement or incompetence but either way it's annoying

Didn't everyone trash the Magic for that trade and they just ended up getting ridiculously lucky that it worked out for them? Much like how the Grizzlies got murdered in the Pau trade but Marc ended up developing and made the trade look semi okay?

Not saying Minnesota shouldn't just pull the trigger, but simply pointing out that nobody thought that was a good move back then either if I recall correctly.

Well look at what OKC got for someone who was walking... Trash. Those are the two most recent precedents for situations like this, and both the Cavs and Warriors have offered better deals.

Can't really blame Minnesota. They still have until the trade deadline to trade him. Considering if Love leaves they'll be garbage anyway they might as well be patient and wait for the best deal.

Idk that might backfire. The deals might get worse as the wolves have less and less leverage and other teams aren't budging

the sooner they trade love the higher their pick will be. the greed karma will come back at them.

If that deal goes down Cleveland will have to wait 3 months to trade any combination of those players because that trade put Cleveland more than $100,000 over the Cap.

Not sure what Cleveland is actually doing here

Considering there's only 2 teams in the running for him(Don't have him going to Chicago)there's no need for any team to make a move right now, Minnesota included.

The same deal that's out there now will most likely be the same deal (with some minor tweaks to it)in February.

You are assuming the best deals will always be available. Pretty sure bulls would be more likely to trade for love prior to signing gasol. Opportunities that present themselves generally have a an expiration date that doesn't go by your schedule.

As someone already mentioned, the deals are going to get worse for the Wolves the closer we get to the deadline because teams know he can walk at that point. Right now is the highest value they're going to get for him. Now if Cleveland and GS want to wait it out until the deadline, that's cool for them because they can offer trash at that point, but Minnesota needs to be trying to get a deal done now.
