It's the same reason why the Cowboys will never not play on Thanksgiving even if they're 4-9 or 2-11 at that point in the season.
Exactly. Dallas has been 8-8 every year for a while but every year they have 3-4 national games a year for the reason Pack stated.

My wife (a casual fan) may sit down and watch a random game if Kobe is playing. She's not watching if its Kyle Lowry no matter what their team's records were.

Maybe the NBA feels like there is a chance that this will be Kobe's last season?

It wasn't a lazy approach. Firstly i have a crappy Internet connection at work.

That comment i was talking about is just what i explained... they're basically repeating the merits of market which is why i mentioned the Clippers. They're in Los Angeles as well so what's the reason they cant just be the team so to speak.

Bolt you know good and we'll it's not speculative. Not only in this city but places beyond LA you'd be hard pressed to find the majority of the fan base who could even tell you who frank hamblen was.

23 we had a 27 win season and most nights the staples center was packed. Laker fans may not be the most knowledgable, and we have had our share of bandwagonners. But most of our fans arent.

I also saw Lakers fans at clippers games cheering

What I don't like about nfl comparisons I see is NFL fans usually have a team and despise other ones in good fun

I'm not trying to pinpoint numbers here just what I've seen over a few decades and even how fickle people out here are which is so bad it's not even funny.

See you when you win...barely know you when you lose.

I know some laker fans who like the clippers as well. If im at a dubs game i'll cheer for them(unless there playing the lakers) cuz i like there team. No harm in liking more than one team. So i dont get your point there.

And i get seeing fans being fickle is annoying, it pisses me off too, and till this day my gf and mom tell me i take it to seriously, doesnt mean half the fan base is that way tho, just cuz you see some who are.

What's even wrong with that ? I don't see it seriously. I should read the perfect fan rules book one day.

Vni I guess you have to live here to know what I mean.

That's almost an oxymoron in some cases but I don't have a problem with it

That wasn't the point at all.

I don't need to speak for Dre but there is a difference between "biggest bandwagon fanbase" and "are mostly bandwagon fans".

It seems like you're arguing as if he said most Lakers fans are bandwagoners... like the rub had been with the Heat. I read it as they have a lot of bandwagon fans, which is true and pretty much a given. That goes hand in hand with having so many fans extended far beyond the city (or even state) that the team is in. It also ties to the reason for the discussion, why the NBA continues to throw them out there on Xmas day. That's for the "bandwagon" fans. The ones who can only name one player on the team (Kobe). The ones who'd have no idea they were battling for 8th place on Xmas day, and would expect them to go showtime on whoever they're going up against.

Every team has these fans, but most of them are tied to the team bc it's the city they live in (NBC doesn't care about these people) or the team has a flashy top 5 player (wondering why the Cavs stopped getting these games when Lebron left?). The Lakers are one of those teams that has these fans outside of their home turf AND always has at least one international star player.

Long story short, I think you guys are kind of arguing the same point.

If the fans you're talking about where bandwagons fans woudn't have they left the ship by now ? There is a difference between casual fans and bandwagons fans in my opinion. Unless I don't understand the definition of bandwagon.

I agree with the rest of your post though.

They should continue to stockpile picks. That's the only thing I'd want them to do.

Well then u just Agreed that they were in limbo by my definition Right? I never said they took on a bad contract other than Kobe's, he isn't worth 20 mil a year at this point in his career, outside of Kobe's and maybe the nick young one is debatable) what I was saying is that they are taking on vets, rather than experimenting with young talent.

You can spill me the case that bc of Kobe they can't full on tank all you want and maybe that's right, but they could do things in prep for a full on rebuild.

                                1. They could've signed Kobe to a lesser deal. Idk how much lesser but I know damn well less than 20 mil.

                                2. Don't take on a Carlos Boozer who will give u nothing in the long run.

                                3. Don't go into FA expecting your name only will get FA's just bc it has in the past.

                                4. Get your nightmare of a coaching hunt under control. And no disrespect but if we're talking about the Los Angeles Lakers of all teams and all the tradition that they have that should get FA's then my goodness u should be able to get a far better coach than a DanPhoni, Mike Freaking Brown, and (no disrespect to him) Byron Scott.

Bc of #4 the first step of the rebuild is to get rid of freaking Jim Buss lol
