Great post McCoy, I often wonder why no one gives Wilt props like Babe Ruth gets props. And Jordan was amazing no doubt, but Kobe has done more at his age than Jordan. If Kobe played in the mid 80's with no defense he would easily have shot over 50% without a doubt. Defense didnt come into play until the bad boys, and then phil taught the bulls defense to win. Both are great but by the time he's done Kobe could have a career as eventful no matter what people think.

Defense was quite prominent during that time. And what exactly has Kobe done more than Jordan at his age? Win 3, quite possibly 4 rings? If so, that doesn't hold much weight considering Kobe has the better team compared to Jordan's mid/late 80's team.

Kobe's great but I'd rather wait and see how his career pans out before calling him one of the best ever.

Wilt should get all the props in the world, and noone takes anything from Wilt at all. He played when things were different. The lane was smaller, there was no 3 seconds, etc..., but he is/was great. I don't see anyone calling Shaq Wilt.

As for your statement, MJ did too many things for you to say Kobe is better now. He won virtually every award in the NBA that year, and went on a stretch of games where he averaged triple dips, and just dominated, even the best in the game. I think it's unfair that you guys are trying to hand Kobe something he hasn't earned as did MJ. This man took basketball global. He took the NBA to a new level, he made the game standard people always look to.

This is silly anyhow. For people to say anybody in todays NBA is in MJ's ballpark is silly. Unless you didn't see the man play it is hard to make these claims with a straight face.

Exactly, so a more even team would be like this:

PG: Marko Jaric (8.5 ppg, 4.8 apg, 1.6 spg)

PF: Ben Wallace (9.5 ppg, 12.4 rpg, 3.0 bpg) *huge advantage here due to shot blocking ability
            C: Rasho Nestorivic (8.7 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 2.0 bpg)*change

            8: Aaron Williams (6.3 ppg, 4 rpg, 1.1 apg)*change

            VS.

PG: Ron Harper (7.4 ppg, 2.6 apg, 1.31 spg)
SG: Michael Jordan (30 ppg, 4.3 apg, 6.6 rpg)

PF: Dennis Rodman (5.5 ppg, 14.9 rpg, 5.6 ofrpg)
            C: Luc Longley (9.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.35 bpg)*change
            6: Toni Kukoc (13.1 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.5 apg)
            7: Steve Kerr (8.4 ppg, 2.3 apg, 52% 3PT)
            8: Jason Caffey (7.3 ppg, 4 rpg, 1.2 apg)*change

could this Kobe team win a title... probably? 6 in a row if he played all full seasons (like MJ's)? Hell No. would've been nice to see 'em play though.

though Harper would've shut down Jaric.
Pippen would've probably D'd up Kobe.
            and Jordan on Marion.
advantage with Ben Wallace cuz Rodman ain't no shot blocker, but he is a better defender

Allright, now I'm not pro-Kobe or anti-Kobe, I just provided comparisons based on what HM said. Here is how I thought of them:

Marko Jaric vs. Ron Harper: Ron Harper wasn't a pure point guard (check assists) because Pippen played Point Forward. Harper was bigger than most guards, as is Marko Jaric. THey can both hit down open shots, but they arn't exactly classified as shooters. Finally, Harper was a good defender. Marko Jaric has shown signs of being a good defender, though he is still early in his career. He led the league in Steals per Minute in his rookie year (I think).

Jordan vs. Kobe: Obviously the core of the argument. Both would be the Number 1 scorers on the team (some better than others), both are great under pressure (some better than others), and both are very well-rounded (some more than others).

Scottie Pippen vs. Shawn Marion: Now obviously Pippen is much better than Marion, but I couldn't think of anyone else. T-mac is basically an offensive player (a great one at that), but doesn't have that Pippen-like defense. Pierce has defense and offense, but Pierce sometimes relies on too many outside shots. But he could be the "Pippen" of the team. Marion on the other hand is a good defensive player, can get you rebounds, and has offensive game. That's why I just put him down. In reality, though, Pippen was better than any small forward in today's game.

Dennis Rodman vs. Ben Wallace: Seems like an even comparison to me. As good of a rebounder Ben Wallace is, Rodman was better. Ben has more offensive game, but on this team he wouldn't be getting any offensive touches. He'd get points off of put backs, much like Rodman did. Ben Wallace is a better weak-side shot blocker, but Rodman was a better post man-to-man defender.

Luc Longley vs. Rasho Nestorivic: Ummm, both get rebounds and both will score once in a while. Other than that, not much to say.
                  -----------------------
Toni Kukoc vs. Manu Ginobili: Both are great all-around players. Great sparks off the bench and could be starters on any team. Kukoc is more of a shooter, and Ginobili is more of a passer type guy.

Steve Kerr vs. Anthoney Peeler: Both are shooters, although Kerr is the better one by far. No guard in today's NBA can match up with Kerr from behind the line. Anthony Peeler came closest.

With that, this is the best Jordan-like Bulls team that I can give Kobe. Now you decide how much this team can win.

could this Kobe team win a title...

                    Longley on Nesterovic... who cares

                    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Does all this create equal teams and see who would win more stuff really matter? By this rationale wouldn't Shaq be the best player ever? Swap in Shaq with one of those centers and swap in an avg sf/sg for kobe/mj and I think Shaqs team would dominate.
