Having said that, let's throw all the BS out the window and be realistic here. The kid can play. He's not Michael Jordan, but he is the best since. That's not me talking, that's most NBA people talking. When Tim Duncan through to Chris Webber through to Rudy T through to Larry Brown all say it, you listen. He's 26. He may get a hell of a lot better, just as MJ did.
I read so many posts here that say stuff like "look at his record when Shaq didn't play".
Honestly fella's, you have to wonder if you know much about the game. Simple fact : That Lakers team was built around a center. That team had a C taking up a toone of cap room and had complimentary players built to fit. Of course the team would struggle when that C is out. You put Jordan at his peak in that Lakers team minus Shaq and Kobe and he wouldn't have been winning rings.
Jordan always had a rebounder (Grant through to Rodman) and he always had a defensive guru (Pip) and he always had other guys who could bring the ball up (Pip, Kukoc) and he always had shooters (Paxson through to Kerr).
The team was built for him. As it should be. The Lakers were built for Shaq in his prime, as they should have been. Just like Hakeems Rockets were built for him (everyone to the three point line, ball into Dream
)Looking at Kobes record without Shaq is insanely naive. Kobe can't be judged until he's had a team built around him. It's that simple.
