lol at the Mavs just getting destroyed by basic pick and rolls. The Rockets are basically Babe Ruth calling his shots out there right now, they get whatever they want.

Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread
My thoughts on how the Mavs can have a chance in this series:
1. Hope Harris and Parsons can come back
2. Start Devin Harris and if he's not healthy, start JJ Barea or Raymond Felton. The offense flows better with Rondo out of the lineup, let the offense run through Dirk and Monta early on in the game to establish a tempo and get the ball in the hands of the primary scorers early. Let Rondo come in with some of the bench guys and control his game with guys that don't need the ball in their hands as much to be effective, which brings me to my next points...
3. PLAY AL-FAROUQ AMINU. The fact that he hasn't gotten more time is insane, he's a ball of energy, he's long, he can block shots, he's disruptive, he's everything that you need in a defender against a team like the Rockets.
Other than that, it comes down to being able to play basic defense, defend the pick and roll correctly and be alert and rotate quickly on defense. They HAVE to start being able to knock down their open looks, both from inside and from deep, the Rockets are a tough team to get really open looks on, particularly down low, so we you get them, you HAVE to take advantage, especially knowing that the Rockets are a team that is going to get their fair share of easy shots. And they just need more intensity in general, the intensity and energy was severely lacking at times in both games 1 and 2, hopefully being at home and having a loud crowd behind them will help.
I'm not holding out much hope because this Mavs team is resembling the Mavs teams I saw lose to some really poor teams during the second half of the regular season but if they can get it together, they're capable of some really good things. The Rockets have really impressed me as well, I wanna give them a ton of credit, their bench has been phenomenal, and obviously nothing needs to be said about Harden and Howard.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

It was very, very cool seeing Dwight and Josh (boys in High School) connect on so many lobs and just put on a show. That had to be fun for them.Comment

We agree here too. Just like I said Houston beat themselves in the first half, Dallas dismantled themselves in the 4th by refusing to play defense. I gotta ask, were they this bad in the regular season? A LOT of people had Dallas beating Houston (could definitely still happen as we've yet to have a game in Dallas) but they look, old, slow, disinterested, and like they don't want to play. The best defensive scheme they had was "psst... leave Smith wide open for three and watch the dummy take the bait".

I don't recall anything as bad as what happened tonight with all those lobs happening during the season though. I think the Rockets combination of size, quickness and intensity just basically shellshocked the Mavs there at the end. They were leaking throughout the game with the easy shots, but at the end it just become a flood. That's how it seems to be with these Mavs, feast or famine.NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread
Rajon Rondo has to be the first basketball player in the history of ever to actually play as bad as he possibly can in a contract year. Dude is 29 years old, this is the last major payday he's going to get in his career and he's doing absolutely NOTHING to convince teams to pay him.Comment

Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread
They looked like this at times in the regular season. Something that I think a lot of people don't know about the Mavs is just how inconsistent they are within a game. This year's Mavs team will be most remembered to me as the team that could drop 40 in one quarter, and 15 the next. They're extremely frustrating. Sometimes it seems that they can just turn on defense. You've seen it a bit in this series for sure, when they have the right personnel on the court, they can look relatively tight defensively. And when they're clicking on offense they're look like a championship level team, but they go through stretches, sometimes it lasts minutes, sometimes quarters, sometimes games, where they look like a lottery team. The offensive movement is poor, the play is sloppy, guys are falling asleep on defense, the whole nine yards.

Media is already starting to run with this "Rondo situation". They really don't need that distraction right now.
Though I do like your idea of making him 6th man. Worked for J Smoove in Houston.Comment

The only positive I have out of this game is the fact that the Mavs beat the Rockets in a playoff series in 2005 after losing the first two games. Can I change my prediction to Rockets in 5?Throw up the X!

Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 1st Round Discussion Thread
I wish someone in the Mavs (Cuban, Dirk, Rick) would light Rondo up in the media. What the guys is doing is terrible. He is literally trying to lose and not play, all because he doesn't like Ricks plays? What an absolute joke.
I really hope no one pays him big money next year. I can't see how any GM would, but cmon.
Call him out for his actions, and bench him for the season.
