But they also let Tucker and Patterson leave.

If they were going to dump Carroll's contract, they should have kept one of them for wing defense?

I heard Tucker was set to come back but Houston beat the offer at the last moment. It sucks but Powell is a capable defender and OG Anunoby is set to get immediate minutes.

Well seeing as how y'all won't be in the Lottery next year, we now have 2 draft picks next year and could have 3 if Indiana misses the playoffs next year. [emoji1490]

Still got $18 Mil in cap space left too. At this point, I wouldn't even be mad if we sat on that and carried it into the season in the event we take on another salary dump, as long as a draft pick is coming our way.

I love IT4 as a competitor and he's great to watch... but IMO Boston isn't ever going to win a championship with him running the point. 5-9 with virtually no defense? Unless they somehow swing a deal for Anthony Davis, it's not happening.

It's why drafting Fultz made so much sense to me. A 6-4 PG with great length/defensive potential, and shooting/scoring/distributing skills. I will never understand that trade.

Somebody is definitely going to max IT. Especially if he bounces back from the injury. I don't know how anyone can sit here and say he is not worth the max after the year he had. Look at the money going around right now.

I mean Boston will have another top pick this year, right? So they will be able to pass on IT and hope their top picks pan out as a star, right?

Teams being stupid and overpaying people doesn't make someone worthy of a max deal. The Knicks just overpaid Tim Hardaway, that doesn't suddenly make IT worth a max. Means somebody else is probably stupid enough to give him one, but doesn't mean he's worth one.

Carroll deal was a steep price to pay to clear salary. Late picks sure, but hopefully it's not a deep draft. Addition by subtraction both on and off the court

Rookie PGs are notorious for coming along slowly (think QB-lite) and you don't sign Hayward and Horford to the max just to saddle them with a rookie PG.

If IT is able to get a max from somewhere else, the Celtics will offer it. If not, they'll squeeze him into the Kyle Lowry (3y/100mil) range. Just all depends on what market there is for his services next year.

Have to also keep in mind that this is a business and IT puts butts in seats. Boston loves him. Very few players move the needle in a "I want to see this guy play tonight" way. IT is one of them.

                      Per Woj and Shelborne

After several conversations and a dinner meeting with franchise executive Steve Mills on Friday, the New York Knicks are progressing toward opening contract negotiations with David Griffin to become the team’s next general manager, league sources told ESPN…

Griffin is also expected to meet with owner James Dolan in the near future, league sources said….

One potential stumbling block to the Knicks’ pursuit of Griffin, league sources said: the willingness of the organization to allow Griffin to bring his own front office and staff into Madison Square Garden. Much of the Knicks’ front office has survived several unsuccessful regimes, and the organization has been hesitant to make sweeping changes to the group, league sources said.

                          lol I don't think it's that simple.

It's a contract negotiation and players have agents, too. They don't just auto-sign whatever the team thinks is appropriate. This IT situation has a lot of moving parts and he has quite a bit of leverage. If he gets a max offer elsewhere, letting him walk would not be a good look for Boston.

Maybe the Celtics and their fans have a sentimental tie to IT2 after the loss of his sister, the 53 point game, leading the team to the ECF.

So they may overvalue him, though when it came right down to it, the Clippers didn't want to give CP3 a 5- year deal and the Raptors didn't want to give Lowry more than 3 years because these guys would be well into their mid 30s at the end of these 5-year contracts.

I really wonder if the Rockets will max out CP3 next summer, unless they win like 70 games and sweep the playoffs or something.

Teams should be wary of giving long deals to players over 30.

CP3 left because of Doc's foolishness and he had enough of it, not because they didn't want to give him a 5 year deal.

There appears to be many explanations.

One was that he resented the favoritism Doc showed for his son.

Another is that he really believes teaming up with Harden is his best chance to win a title.

The team balking at giving him 5 year deal has definitely been reported. Of course the team will never confirm that.
