    Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

I love me some Woj but he's insane for this. It would be absolutely insane to just ignore the future of that team with the idea that winning a championship this year will "last forever." Turning on the TV in February after football season is over to watch basketball and watching a 15 win basketball team playing every year gets real old, real ****ing quick I don't care how recent a championship is. Especially when you don't have any first round draft picks until 2021 to even put a light at the end of that suck tunnel.

Woj isn't saying that, that's someone else from ProBasketballTalk.

        Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

There was a realGM thread about which one player added to a current team could beat the Warriors.

So for instance, suggestions like Lebron to the Spurs.

Or maybe Kawhi to the Cavs if they keep Kyrie?

Of course none of the ideas were remotely plausible, unless superstars were willing to take 1-year minimum deals for one shot at a ring.

Makes more sense now. My point still stands on the lunacy of that guy's take though lol

lol, Raptors GM said he actually contacted the Cavs to discuss an Irving trade. Not a rumor or anything, he actually said it.

I wonder what the point of the discussion actually was because they have Lowry and can't trade him until January. And if somehow a trade didn't involve Lowry, would Raptors go with DeRozan a SF, Irving and Lowry at the guards?

Only trade offer I could even see them doing is something like Valanciunas + young guys for Irving and obviously Cavs aren't gonna take that.

There no possible way that any trade not including DeRozan wouldn't be an immediate hang up

Only other explanations might be them just trying to gauge what their opponents are doing and see how likely it actually might be that Kyrie leaves. Or maybe throwing their hat in as a 3rd team if it needs to happen.

Cavs seem to want young guys from whoever trades for Kyrie. Maybe Raptors step in and take a vet forward from that team and add in their own pieces along with some from that team to give the Cavs the youth they're looking for.

Give em Jakob Poeltl, then throw in Bruno as a sweetner. Cavs get youth, Raps get Kyrie. Everyone is happy

Only other explanation? What about a top player in the league has reportedly become available and even the greenest of green GMs know that you HAVE to at least pick up the phone and see if there's any interest whatsoever in anything on your roster? GMs call each other all year talking about trades that wouldn't even remotely have a chance at being accepted or about players teams wouldn't dare dream of trading away.

                      Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

Another reminder that you know you're getting old when:

Tayshaun Prince spent 14 years in the NBA as a long, defensive minded wing, one of the early “3&D” guys but one who, in his prime, could be more than that. He won a ring in Detroit in 2004 and was a four-time NBA All-Defense selection.

Now he’s stepping into the front office.

The Grizzlies, one of his former teams, is about to hire him, reports Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Retired forward Tayshaun Prince will soon be named special assistant to Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace, according to several NBA sources…

Prince is widely considered a big influence in NBA locker rooms and operated as a calming voice with Grizzlies players.

The Grizzlies believe Prince will bring a unique voice to front office decisions.

Prince came to the Grizzlies in the Rudy Gay trade and made a real impression there — and elsewhere — as a locker room leader and rational voice. He was in the NBA until last season.

This could and should be a good hire for a Grizzlies team transitioning out of the “grit n’ grind” era (albeit slowly, they could still bring Tony Allen back). The best GMs don’t go it alone but get information and perspectives from a lot of sources, and a high IQ former player would be a good one.
Feels like it was yesterday when he chased down Reggie Miller and blocked his shot in the ECF.

Prince always struck me as a good dude. Good to see him getting the FO chance.

I think he'll end up teaming with Bron or CP3 (if Melo lands there).

But I'm confident he'll eventually return to South Beach, just not this season.
